Wading through deep water...?
I'm have to admit I am curious, given the massive amount of rainfall the Carolina's received this past week and the historic flooding that took place. Please answer the following only if you drive a ranger that is not elevated more than the factory established height.
How much water (how deep per say...) can a ranger wade through without stalling out on you?
What's the deepest water depth you have ever waded through during a flood?
Does or did the interior flood on you when trying to wade through flood water?
As I am a storm chaser, I was just curious in case I was ever tempted enough to try and wade through...

Generally no deeper than the bottom of your headlights. That's where you're intake is. Water will get inside if you linger too long. I have gone deeper, but would not recommend it.

Re: Wading through deep water...?
Does this general rule apply to most models newer than 2000? I was curious as my dad also drives one. Are all the air intakes located higher in the engine compartments than most vehicles.

You will have a foot of water in the truck's interior before hydro locking the engine. Think it through.

4wd or 2wd torsion bar suspension rangers are higher than your 2wd coil spring ranger so must factor that in along with the tire height. Imo if you don't have to do it DON'T.

Wow so tough. You would be dead if you drove into a tornado with a Ranger.

It wouldn't matter much WHAT you drove into a tornado with. Were you thinking a full size would be better? You need something like this before you could even really think about it...

Re: Wading through deep water...?
What's amusing (at least to me though) is that while storm chasing in my ranger, I won't hesitate to drive into a high wind, heavy rain / flooding, severe lightning storm, but throw hail anywhere into that mix and I'm going the other way. I guess in my mind, hail is a bigger threat. That seems *ss backwards I know.

Something I'd like to point out, is that you risk filling your transmission, transfer case (if 4x4 equipped), and your front/rear diffs with water. Those fluids aren't cheap and it's no fun changing them.

Usually hail in or around tornadoes.

Absolutely. There is more than 'will I hydrolock the engine' to be considered.

Thank you for agreeing with me.
Unless specifically equipped (IE, so water can't get in your diffs, etc and with a snorkle) you ought not drive through water so deep.
