I like my little 2.3. Always wanted a Ranger with a 4 banger, just a great DD for me, good on gas and all that stuff. I don't need 4x4 (although it would be cool) so no regrets here. Mine's a manual though, helps a lot with 2wd.

Yeah, I think my problem is I went from a 4x4 manual to a 2x4 auto... So I naturally dislike my combo lol

How does a manual transmission help a 2wd ? That statement makes no sense.

Sorry, but it does make sense.
I don't know where you live, but in the winter manual kills auto on a 2wd truck. Try driving an icy road with a 2wd auto when you slow down slightly and the trans kicks down a gear... not fun at all. At least with a manual you can hold a gear in that situation.
My statement should have also reflected the value of a manual trans coupled with the 2.3.

Hmmm. Nah. I just put the gear selector in 2 and it stays in 2nd, doesn't shift down or up. Plus, I'm smart. Studded Firestone Winterforce tires. We have alot of ice on top of snow and ice under snow here. Been driving on it Long Time.

That sounds high I've seen newer rangers on Craigslist with 100>k miles for 4,000$ max if it's a 4.0 it's usually 1,000 or more than a 3.0 or 2.3. I live in south Florida though

Studded is the way to go.

I get it got the same set up and it does perfectly fine in the snow with no issues.

Re: Over priced rangers
I have a 2010 2wd auto and it goes great in snow and slick conditions like we had in NW Arkansas last winter. I love the fact that I can eaaaaase away from a stop with the auto. Good tires make all the difference.

Re: Over priced rangers
Might not be a bad truck. He said he would take 1k offer him less if there not a rust issue. I think it's a 2001. it has a Lima in it. He replaced the timing belt but still wouldnt start. https://boston.craigslist.org/nwb/cto/5271914448.html

The headlights look like 98 - 2000 lights and unless he changed out the tails, those are 2000 tails.. all signs point that direction.

Re: Over priced rangers
I have noticed this as well. There really is nothing left to fill the void that Ford left dropping the Ranger and you don't find that many that have been taking good care of.

If the 2000 5 speed 4 banger in the ad doesn't have a rust issue you can basically keep that thing running forever without a lot of effort. It's all about rust.
