Default Can our Ford Ranger do this?

So everyone was telling me that our truck can't pull our small 2 horse trailer. I don't see why not? Everyone I've talked to goes um a horse trailer and a ford ranger? and then I explain and they go oh ok. So advice please? here's the set up
the trailer weighs 2700 lbs. It is a 2 horse slant load BP. the ford ranger is a 2003 model, has 4 wheel drive, a tow package, a v-6 engine, and 125.9inch wheel base. It can TOW 5700lbs with no problems or slowing down. So, we don't have much tack, it wouldn't even add up to 100 lbs for all our extra stuff. The horses are 1000 lbs each so 2000lbs for the 2. that leaves 1000lbs without the weight limit. People said they wouldn't go more than that but that'd be fine with the truck the way it is. So why is everyone saying this can't pull the horse trailer?
The trailer has breaks. and we're getting our 4 pin flat replaced on wednesday to a 7 round pin. We would only be using the trailer a couple times a month for an hour ride to 4 hours. On very rare occassion, like once a year we may be going to south dakota or montana from minnesota and thats about a 12 hour drive or so

I wouldn't even try to haul a horse trailer with a Ford Ranger. My grandfather hauled 5 cows in a 1993 Dodge Dakota and it had a 318 and it was 4x4 and it ruined the truck. And I would double check the instruction book about the weight off the hitch. I double checked my instruction book and the flyer for my truck and the weight is differant.

Also we wouldn't be driving it like every day, or every weekend, probably just like once a month. several times a year.

2005 Ford Ranger 4.0 Auto

2,880 pounds not counting the trailer. Trailer was 800-1000 pounds.

I have also hauled my dad 26' travel trailer with my truck

will it pull it? Yes it will but its certainly not ideal especialy as often as you plan to do it. If your ranger is your only option than at the very least add an extra trans cooler and maybe a set of airbags to level it out. I would def use a weight distributing hitch also.

as long as your under the weight rating for your hitch and truck by the figures in the manual there should be no problem. I would suggest if you have and automatic to put on an external trans cooler, its cheap and easy to do. I'd recommend it to anyone with an automatic weather your hauling or not.

theres a reason why people with horses use f 150's, 250's+ to tow their horse trailers and horses. Don't be stupid.

If you do decide to go that route and go with the transmission cooler, make sure the cooler is installed so that the fluid goes through the cooler and then the radiator cooler. The reason for that is this; if the auxillary cooler cools the fluid too much, it could fool the computer into thinking the engine/transmission is cold and mess with your fuel mixture and shifting by forcing it into "warm up mode".

you can do it, but avoid doing it regularly. You'll wear down your truck very fast

you say you have 1000# left you forgot the weight of you and you passenger plus little stuff like that all add in but if you drive like a white man you should be ok! and remember the only thing ford cares about when thay give you a weight rating is if the trucks breaks can stop it!
