Default Rust in peace [56K WARNING]

So finally got round to swapping on a stepside bed, freshly painted one at that. Bedliner in it too.

Old and busted:

Bolts were rusted beyond the point of being able to remove them normally.

But thats what the grinder was invented for, right?

I'm no mechanic, but I don't think its supposed to look like that.

This is what happens from pool chemicals dripping out of the bed. Funny how an oxidizer oxidizes metal.

Frame isn't too bad otherwise. Will make another thread discussing the possibility of replacing that center spare tire holder piece with one from a junkyard ranger. Looks like its just riveted on?

Unfortunately by the time we got enough people to lift the new bed into place and battened down the hatches it was dark so no pictures of the thing till tomorrow.

The bumper was too big so it just got a few cuts made to it so the step-side fit in. Hopefully it gets replaced with a proper stepside or tube bumper but the frame is more of a concern right now.

PS: Lost one of the tiny plastic bed rail screw covers, anyone got a spare I can have? Also need 4 factory bed hooks and screws to go with them.

EDIT: Morning pictures added a couple posts down!

Does anyone run a 56k modem anymore? Most people on here don't even know what that means.

Yes, I gotta finish tightening down a couple of bolts today. Also the tailgate wont stay shut so gotta adjust that.

But check out this custom bumper!

Wow, that's a lot of rust. Are you sure that truck didn't come from the midwest? New bed looks great though. The bedliner is really sharp.

Nah it's been in FL its whole life according to a VIN check. The back of the frame is so f***ed because it was used as a pool truck for an unknown time but there was a drop in bed liner so all the chemicals just dripped onto the edge of it. If not for that bedliner the whole frame would likely be beyond repair.

Yeah you can tell looking at that frame shot that it is just the very back that is all rusted. Big improvement with the new bed.

That's gonna be something we'll have to explain to future generations or anybody younger than 30.

Back in my day we'd have to wait 20 minutes for a single picture to download & if somebody picked up the phone we'd have to start all over...

I'm younger than 30 (29 1/2 to be exact) and I remember those painful days. It was near impossible to not get caught looking at porn since you could not hide it quick enough lol.
