Angry
Well after letting my truck sit over the weekend the tranny is getting really bad. Receives is slipping bad along with 1st and it doesn't even wanna go in 4th. It's shifting REALLY hard and O/D light keeps flashing. So i found a yard that has a tranny for 550$ with 55k miles. Not bad, just gotta call then tomorrow.
I know a guy parting out an 03 fx4 off road with a 4.0 SOHC complete with 82k miles. He was willing to put the whole setup in my truck for around 1500 including installation. I may just do that if i can get a hold of the guy
Well just wanted to let you know what's happening. Glad i got that insurance money.

Re: Angry
personally i'd just buy the one for 550 the swap is really easy. for 1500-2000 you could go to a trans shop and get a new reman trans and have it installed, and you have the option of a warranty too. just my .02

Re: Angry
all you'd have to do is drop the driveshaft, unbolt the bellhousing bolts on the back of the motor (i think there's 8 but i haven't done one in awhile), and unbolt the two bolts that hold it to the crossmember. other than that there is a few misc. electrical plugs and the shift linkage to disconnect. once its all loose all you have to do is wiggle it out. trying to explain it it seems like quite a task but its really not bad.

Re: Angry
Thanks!
Alright so i got the new tranny with 55k miles on it and it's super clean! Bought New Mercon V Synthetic fluid for tranny and transfer case and gas and new filter and gasket. Altogether cost me about 750$
I got a printout from school today from AllData and hopefully i can do this myself with a couple friends. I wanted to wait till mine went out but it only has a 30 day warranty.
I thought mine was a 4 speed but it is a 5 speed so this new one will work thank god. So ford said either 5th gear is gone or The torque converter is bad. So that might explain my horrriiibbllee gas mileage!!!

Re: Angry
if 5th gear is gone the converter is bad to. all the metal thats in the trans from tearing it up goes through the converter, and tears it up to.

I dont know about the 4wd, but you also have to drop the exhaust on my 2wd...Might have to do with how my exhaust is ran though....Even if you do, its only a couple more bolts.

That's what Ford said was the torque converter. There isn't any metal shavings in the pan. I dropped it to check

Re: Angry
yea Cole's right about the exhaust, but like he said it is only a couple more bolts. forgot that part lol. i've done so many now its just kind of second nature when i'm under there, i don't even think about it anymore. having to actually think about how to do it now is harder than actually doing it lol.
