Tried to throw on some Rough Country torsion keys this afternoon. I tried the bottle jack method that worked for pre-keys on my previous Ranger. No go.

I then rented a 5-ton 3/2 jaw puller. Still a no go, the main bolt stripped a few threads and luckily stopped or it would have popped off and broke my face.

I'm now looking at purchasing a proper tool since no one here in San Antonio has the proper Ford torsion bar tool for rent.

It just sucks to buy a $220 tool for a $65 part.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Drove around town in my first gen Ranger and saw another one. Got really excited so I honked and waved. He didn't see me. Sad day. But also happy to see another first gen running around.

I rented a 7-ton 2/3 jaw puller today. Attempted to install my Rough Country torsion keys. Still a no go.

I even un-bolted the shock on the side I was working on in hopes of letting the lower control arm hang a little lower. Nope.

I've dealt with pre-keys in my '11 but the bottle jack method worked fine. These aftermarket keys are clocked A LOT different (see pic below), and with my brand new torsion bars, they just don't want to budge. I found a tool meant for Ford torsion bars and it seems pretty sturdy, but I'm not wanting to spend the $185 on it for a one time use. Here's the tool... https://www.toolsid.com/otc/ford-tor...yABEgIknPD_BwE

While I had the shock off, I did install some spacers on both ends of it when I reinstalled it. It worked great. I actually did get more lift out of that and a better feeling ride.

If the left side of the front bumper wasn't pushed about 2" in I would have zero rubbing.

Rough Country Left, Ford Right

It depends on where you got them from. I bought some of eBay from a 4X4 TRUCK specialties out fit and they were like what you are describing. I did get then installed but when I let the truck down there was absolutely no give, the shocks would not mount, the axles were on such an angle they would burned up in 20 miles. Pure junk! Be very careful about lifting, I have seen some so high the boots rubbed and caught on fire and burned the truck down to the ground by the hiway.

They're quality keys from Rough Country. I just cant find a way to install them. As you mentioned though, I'd definitely need longer shocks if it worked.

I don't want to use much of the new keys, I just want about an inch.

I think for now I will try to bend the left side of the front bumper. It was bent in by a previous owner and that's what's causing the rub. I'd love a Superlift, but I cant justify spending that much on the truck. I also thought about a nice winch bumper on the front, but I cant seem to find a good looking one for under $800.

Haven’t had the two lower fan speeds for a couple of years now, did some research and figured i should pull the blower resistor and take a look and DAMN! judging from the corrosion/erosion there’s the issue!

Wired in the new pigtail installed this afternoon, resistor itself should be here Saturday.

Went ahead earlier today, and pulled the trigger.
Ordered a Nathan M3 railroad diesel air horn set up.
Compressor, tank, and all connections! Horns will be
powder coated in a satin black finish. Should be about 2 weeks.
