Re: What did you do to your ranger today thread IV
I am in the process of removing the fender flares on my FX/4 to check the condition of the metal underneath and do rust prevention.
I also purchased a 30 foot roll of Bushwacker Fender Flare Trim wiper style to install on the flares with I reinstall them. The flares have a nasty habit of wearing the paint where they come in contact with the body and causing rust. I hope this trim takes care of this issue. I know that type of trim is installed on the older Tacomas and seems to help.

Re: What did you do to your ranger today thread IV
Got a great day today outside so I finished up painting and reinstalling my fender flares with Bushwacker medium wiper type flare trim. Came out great. A few small gaps here and there but overall a great addition and keeping my fingers crossed this trim really helps to stop the abrasion of the flares against the fenders wearing the paint and causing rust.
Last week I installed new fog lamp assemblies with Nokya Hyper Yellow 2500K halogen lamps. Lots more light output over the original worn out fog lamps.

Tried to get the 4WD work. Stopped a vacuum leak and the shift motor started working I think. Removed the sewed on cover on the steering wheel. Seems the underlying cushion had turned to mush, leaving with black goo that got on your hands. Kinda like roof tar.

Re: What did you do to your ranger today thread IV
A couple of weeks ago the cruise control quit working. All the fuses were good, brake lights worked just fine...it had to be something simple and cheap, right?
New controls in the steering wheel....nope
New deactivation switch on the brake pedal....nope
New brake light switch.....nope
Finally gave in & took it to the Ford dealer and let them diagnose the problem.
The actuator had failed. I ordered and installed a new one and all is well again

Re: What did you do to your ranger today thread IV
Finished up my bed rack for the truck this weekend. It has a deck, kept full functionality of the tool box, and has a removable rear bar for tall loads.
Haven't logged in for a few years. Need to update the build thread!

Suspension Upgrade
Today I tackled a torsion bar replacement with adding new shocks and sway bar links. Recently I had someone point over that my truck was leaning towards the passenger side. So I did some measuring and come to find out the difference between the drivers side frame rail and passenger frame rail was over 1.5 inches. I found out I had the softest spring code for a 4x4 and decided it was the torsion bars because I raised the front up a number of years back. So I ordered class A or class 1 bars from Tasca. While I was at it, I ordered some Bilstein shocks and got new sway bar links cause one was broken.
Got everything installed and got the front to sit 34.5 inches from the ground to the midpoint of the fender in the front. The rear is 1 inch higher but you really can't tell. Oh and the lean was fixed and it drives like a new truck.

LED headlights | went from square foglights to round | Sound system | Dick Cepick blackout wheels | Slowly making bigger additions so theres more to come. Trying to make it look as if Ford would offer the option and put it on at the factory.

Re: What did you do to your ranger today thread IV
Few weeks back I finished up throwing the truck together. Completely rebuilt the trans as well as the engine. Since then I've been doing a lot of PM's and general maintenance to get it back to what it was when I bought her 10 years ago.
This week is the "3rd" phase of repairs, with both new front/rear rotors/drums/wheel bearings, shocks all around, new lights on every corner (and in the cluster), new headlight and tail light housings, and FINALLY a new set of e-brake cables so I can stop using the trans as a parking gear.
I'm convinced it's what caused so much play in my input shaft bearing.
Once that's all settled I'll throw the rest of the front suspension together and press all new joints and bushings in and get some new coil springs. I'm thinking I may just buy air-lift load levelers for the back, its nearly the same price as a new set of leaf springs and I've "over loaded" this truck more than once hauling scrap and toys around. May as well make it more useful and less boat like, right?

Re: What did you do to your ranger today thread IV
still havent got a set of white spokes for summer, tried the factory alloys and they just dont look right. these dont look bad, they are from a 01 jeep wrangler. finnally did the hood too, only bad thing is the dark blue i was using from rustoluem has been discontinued. i do like this metallic cobalt blue better but dont really want to repaint the rest of the truck. painted the grille silver too. also on the hood i used the lighter "ford blue" as accents in the factory indentations on either side. (theres a word for those but i cant recall it) thats the same lighter blue as the tailgate letters. the darker blue along side the silver and lighter blue is the factory color, almost looks black instead of dark blue. i thought about doing a design like the explorer package stripes, but theres so many variations so i just did what i thought would look good. sure is a improement at least from how it was.

Did a console swap in my ranger a few days ago, working on removing spray paint off of the bed and rewiring a couple switches.
