Just got back from skiing in Vermont. She was a beast in the snow so I rewarded her with a bath.

Re: What did you do to your ranger today thread IV
Made an attempt to fix the rust bubbles/blisters around the fuel door/filler neck, (Living in the rust belt is great ). I figured sanding and painting the area wouldn't be worth it because I would be fighting a losing battle with rust. So I 3D printed a cap with gasoline safe abs, drilled a few holes and covered the entire back side with marine grease and the entire front of the filler neck with marine grease. So hopefully it slows the rust, and I don't have to see the rust bubbles/blisters any more.

Man I hear you, I'm getting quotes for my rocker panels in the $2000's, I can't swing $30k for a new truck but that's still a lot

It sucks living in the salt bed, I swear there is more salt than gravel on the roads sometimes. My goal is to save up enough to ship a Ford Ranger from down south. Good luck on the rocker panels, gotta love rust.

Re: What did you do to your ranger today thread IV
the two tone was done mostly because the front end and cab were blue and the bed was silver, so i made it a two tone rather than paint the front and cab silver or the box blue. always liked a two tone design.
the hood emblem is off a older ford truck, probly from the early to mid 60's, its what came before the blue oval as a emblem. found it at a flea market for 15 or 20 bucks. heres a couple more pictures of it:

Finally put the truck back together. It's been a while now.. I think since January since my fuel pump no start problem, and then I kept doing stuff to it while I had more and more things apart...lol
Test drive it today and then I should be good to go.

Changeing the pump is a quick 10 min job.. getting to it is the hours of dirt and rust chore.

Re: What did you do to your ranger today thread IV
^
Yep.
I had to remove my bed liner, cover, bed rails and then the bed bolts. 4 of the bolts came out somewhat easily. The front two did not. I had to spray them with kroil for days before I could break them loose...all while fearing I was going to strip out the bolt or snap it. I replaced all the bolts/clips because I didn't want to deal with that headache again. Removing the bed took no time but required my neighbor to help me lift it off.
The fuel pump was easy. Undo the ring. Pull entire assembly out, put entire new assembly in. Use new gasket, and tighten the lock ring. Connect everything back up and start the truck. My stock OEM pump lasted 17 years at around 180k miles. I bought an entire new OEM assembly because I didn't think it was worth it to only change the pump. Figured it's much easier if the entire assembly is replaced and just drops right in.
You can get the assemblies cheaper by not going OEM but I figured if the OEM one lasted that long then a new oem would be just as good. I will note that the new assembly isn't nearly as loud as the old one. I used to be able to hear it whine at start up.. That's not the case with the new one. So I am guessing they changed things over the years.
*I will note if you think yours is going out, change it before it leaves you stranded somewhere. My truck didn't start one day in the parking garage at work. I let it sit for 5 minutes then it started and ran fine. Had it gone out here in the parking garage I would have been screwed since a tow truck can't get in because of low ceilings.

Re: What did you do to your ranger today thread IV
I'm going to start trying to figure out why the 4x4 isn't working on the '99 today.
