It was your luckiest night ever, but full of worry and doubt...they lived and at most you lost an old replaceable truck...count your blessings.

Rangers are incredible trucks. I walked away without a scratch from a head on collision with an SUV at about 45-50 mph (each) in my 96 ranger. Glad they're okay!

Mom hit a deer in her suburban a couple years ago doing about 80, heard a thud and saw the dear go flying over the hood, didn't even feel it. (From what I was told, I was not in the car at the time) only took out the headlight grille and bumper

No speeding wasn't the problem the road is very narrow with the shoulder being a 5 ft ditch. speed limit is 55 on that part of the road. Highway patrol report said " driver swerved went off road and hit a tree" Yes we feel the truck did do its job, they walked away.. after all of this yes it was the luckiest night ever.. thanks everyone.

Too fast for conditions. Driver was at fault any way you look at it. I hope a lesson was learned.

Perspective is usually the first sacrifice to be made when most folks encounter a situation like this. You've kept yours admirably. Your son will continue to learn from you and thie example you have set.

Yeah, If you are braking hard, the front end will dip down and catch the animal lower, which could cause it to go through the windshield.
