Default Best Year

Hi!,
Wondering what the best year of Ford Ranger is. I currently own a '10 but I'd like to see what year is the best or most reliable.

Not much dramatic changed over the last 10 years (+/-) of the Ranger as far as gains or downfalls when it comes to reliability (or much else)......She had a slow death if you will.

Yeah I guess but I don't blame Ford. That would destroy F150 sales trying to keep the Ranger up with it.

Well... When I got mine I was looking for a 2004 or newer. I think that Ford got the timing chain issues worked out on the 4.0 engines by 2003 and they put the newer steering wheels with the better cruise control buttons on them in 2004. However when it comes to seats the 2004 & 2005 are kind of bastards because of the high backed head rests. It seems easier to find seat covers/seat replacements for the 2006 and later Rangers.

I ended up with a 2004 and it is perfect for me. Once I get the holes in the driver's seat fixed...

Whatever you can find low miles in good condition. I ended up buying an '07. Wanted 4X4, 4.0l, 5spd. The 5 speed really cut down my choices.

02-03... simple. The biggest issue was the timing chains on these.

2000. No problems. Everything perfected right before they changed up the design

I kind of have a soft spot for first and second gens. I owned an '89 all through high school and college (well, it was my dad's truck, but I was the only one that ever drove it). Then I got a '93 Explorer Sport. Loved that thing. I sold it in 2003 to my parents' neighbor with 189,000 miles on it, and he's still driving it.
