Default Need an opinion...Ford Recycle your Ride

Just an opinion needed here. I have a 1990 Ford Ranger 4X4 XLT with all options except power windows. 4.0 L V6 and automatic transmission. It has 330,000 Km's showing on the odometer (210,000 miles). Truck just passed our emissions test and is licensed and used every day. Body is "toast" except for cab mounts which are still OK but box and fenders are too far gone to be repaired. I have new fenders already. Everything works except air. Now, it is well used and has many small problems to be fixed but overall has been well maintained since new. I have a 2010 ordered which is supposed to be in on the 28th of this month. Ford is offering $1,000.00 for vehicles older than 2003 I believe. Question....if I was to put it out on my front lawn for sale would I expect any more than what Ford is offfering???or should I give it to Ford??

I took a quick look at the toronto's section, if your truck is as damaged as you say, i'd save myself the trouble and just take the 1k, but i'd also keep parts that can be taken off safely like accessories that you could easely resell.

The dealers around here are giving $3000 to recycle your ride as long as its older than 2003. Maybe you can get a more than $1000.

If you get more than $1000, it probably won't be much more. Like $1,200 instead. Its old, its falling apart, and its broken. Personally, I would take the effortless $1,000 and be done with it.

Well guys, it seems that the offer is $1,000.00 to $3,000.00 depending on which vehicle you are giving them (go to their web site) . The Ranger, sadly, falls into the $1,000.00 payout as far as I can tell. Yes, I could strip the brush guard, box liner, cap, floor mats, skid plates, bug deflector, wheels and whatever else has any value and then let them have it. Too bad to see the nonslip differentials get crushed! I am one of those "obsessive - compulsive" types who is going to be sad when it goes. We have gone 300,000 Km's together. I thought about digging a hole and putting up a stone....kidding. [IMG][/IMG]

You gotta remember the recycle your ride is differant in Canada than the states. In the states they wrecked the motor and could only strip out certain parts. Up here the car is sent to the scrap yard and anybody can strip the parts off of it once the parts are stripped then its crushed. One Ford dealership has an older model Tempo with a sign saying 2003 and older 3 grand I would talk the dealership at least another grand on your old Ranger.

Thanks Magnus. I don't have much to bargain with as the deal has been made. They did ask if I was going to trade the old one in and I said "no" as I intended to keep it at my hunting camp to use for bringing wood out but...I have changed my mind. I will ask though but when you go to the Ford.ca site it specifically says $1,000.00 - $3,000.00 and then lists which ones bring more $$$$$ and the Ranger is in the $1,000.00 list. I just know that a junk yard won't crush it until they remove the transfer case, tranny and both front and rear differential and then charge big prices for them...but really...they have the work. Hard decision.
