I park my truck in the campus garage and have no problem fitting in a spot (I usually try and snag ones near a pillar because they are wider than the others). The problem, however, is that college students are TERRIBLE drivers. Trucks been hit twice that I know of. No major damage yet, but it's only a matter of time. I also make the 400mile round trip home every other weekend. While it's not ideal, the truck does what I ask of it and works well for my college-student-needs. But, by no means is it comfortable or efficient. Lol

My ranger has fit in every parking spot I've pulled/backed into at my college.

Id vote for a really clean, dependable, economical to operate car.
Undergrad at College is about teaching you how to think for yourself in real life. Have some good times and what ever vehicle you get don't get tied down to it. Plan on having it last at least thru college and making it to a few big job interviews later on...that kind of vehicle.
Good luck

I've got a v6 3.0 ranger splash 2wd and I commute 30 min to college everyday and work 40 plus hrs a week delivering pizza in it. I wouldn't trade it for anything (except for a 4x4 ranger lol). But as long as you aren't parking illiterate then you shouldn't have any issues. Go for the ranger!!

Yep, don't know what college you go to, but we park our trucks in the dirt whenever there's no parking. Pretty reliable little trucks if well taken care of.

I go to the University of Akron, there isn't a patch of dirt big enough to park in for 15 miles from there. It's essentially the ghetto.. Lol what about you?

Re: College
Get a bicycle. Pay off your student loans instead. You're already working 2 summer jobs? How you gonna pay for a vehicle as well as your education? Get a 3rd job? Nah. Save your money & just get a bicycle. Or a bus pass. That way you'll have no need to buy gas, insurance, repairs, etc. Vehicles are a luxury, not cheap.

Re: College
Slap some aggressive tread tires on a ranger and make your own parking lot! As you can see in my profile pic that whole field was grass before I tore it up with highway tires lol.

Re: College
Don't buy new unless Daddy is rich and is paying for it. Otherwise let some other guy eat the big depreciation biscuit...it drops value tremendously right as you drive it off the lot. Get a good used Ranger 2WD XLT supercab with the 2.5L 4 banger and five speed manual OD tranny...28 mpg down the road and well over 22 in town. Roll tide...Gig 'em Ags...Hail State, etc, etc. etc.

If you ever plan on living in an apartment or fraternity house in your later years then parking should be of no issue.
