Default Ranger 2.5l 4banger versus b16 series

Okay so I've been thinkin' believe it or not, and I'm freakin' lost. How is it that a little Honda civic motor can outrace v8's and other cars, where as my same (american) 4banger is strained flooring it from stoplight to stoplight? How can They get 45mpg in a hatchback, whereas I get mid twenties babying it? Is it the Teeruck its self haha or are they just more effecient? You can get up to 700 power with enough money out of an orient 4bangr but mine pushes like 150?

Sad thing is... you are more around 110-120 hp. They spend big bucks to get that HP. Build Lema 2.5 and Turbo it with 20LBS of boost and you have a 9 second vehicle* (Ranger maybe not) Why 45 mpg? They are driving a ghey little 1900lb car. Your ranger will always be a truck. sad but true....

What's a .030 Over bore do to your gas milage, once you supe up your 4banger, does it chug like a v8?

lol civics can beat v8? The only ones i've seen doing that had integra engine+transmission swaps. severely overrated and overpriced cars imo. they sure sport a lot of stickers though.

The lima motor can make over 500hp with a stock bottom end, and a lot less money invested.

The Lima 4 banger is around 110hp, the D-tech 4 banger is around 140hp. Yes the lima is an inefficient motor. The design is over 30 years old. The d-tech makes more power than those little honda boys, and will get you 30 mpg in a truck.

So, if you want power out of a lima, boost it. If you want good gas mileage, get a d-tech.

You also have to remeber a V8 truck weighs more than a little civic so it takes extra time for the truck to catch up. And a pick up truck is not as aerodimeamicly designed like a Civic either. The best part about a truck is when you run into something you have a higher chance to survive a head on over a Civic. And I'll take a beefed up show truck over a Rice Wagon over day every Ricer out there pritty much looks the same now a days a Stock 1967 F100 with a wooden box looks better in my books.

Seems like a lot of that ^ wouldnt do anything for power...That, or maybe my billet dipstick and aftermarket oil cap are broke

But yeah, civics are lighter, more aerodynamic and have more fuel efficient motors. I dont care what you say, them japs know how to build a 4cyl.

Your not thinking like true ricer. Each decal on their windshield adds so much HP and down force to the rear of the car. That is why you see so many.

Each additional mod to that particular area adds either torque or hp. It all depends how it is is applied

Big difference in comparisons. Lower weight per horsepower, much more modern engine, Honda engines do tend to put out more horsepower per liter but have to be at a high RPM to do it (they are designed to rev higher).

A closer comparison, but still apples to oranges, would be a CR-V to a Ranger as far as weight and engine size go. (Info from Wikipedia so may be a bit inaccurate)

CR-V
1996-1998 2.0L B20B: 126HP@ 6200 RPM, 133 lbs-ft torque @ 4500 RPM
1999-2001 2.0L B20Z: 146HP@ 6200 RPM, 133 lbs-ft torque @ 4500 RPM
2002-2006 2.4L K24A1: 160HP @ 5800 RPM, 162 lbs-ft torque @ 4200 RPM
2007-2009 2.4L K24Z: 166HP @ 5800 RPM, 161 lbs-ft torque @ 4200 RPM
2010 2.4L K24 Series: 180HP @ 5800 RPM, 161 lbs-ft torque @ 4200 RPM

Ranger
1998-Mid 2001 2.5L: 119 HP, 149 lbs-ft torque (RPMs not listed)
Mid 2001 - 2010 2.3L: 143 HP @ 5250 RPM, 154 lbs-ft @ 3750 RPM

The problem is most people don't understand 2 things limit the output of an engine.

1 - How much fuel can you supply to the system?
2 - How well is the engine built?

Depends on what it is built for too. At least for the 2.5L, it's a cast iron bloack and head, designed to be a dependable work horse engine, not to mention relatively inexpensive to build. I doubt horsepower and fuel mileage got much consideration.

After all, it's going into a truck, not into a vehicle meant to be basically a daily runner for the family...

Actually, the Lima motor was designed for passenger cars. The ranger just kept it much longer than all it's other homes.

HAAAHAHAHA I was thinkin' about getting a NOS sticker on my rear axle pumpkin, a 32valve sticker for my top end, a "Police Interceptor" Badge for below my ranger decal(Serious actually about that one lol), a Cobra sticker for my tailgate, and an apollo 11 on my slider.

That makes a Lot of sense ! Only contradiction is that my rangers have been my daily drivers, one lasted 307k and is still going and this ones at 137 and hella strong !

What's the downside of Lima? Less tech or something?
