Same here! The ranger doesn't need to join the bandwagon of other trucks just because every other company is doing so. It is fine the way it is and that says something about the ranger.

That could also be it's demise.

I just bought my 2010 in March. I was told at that time that this was the last year for the Ranger. The 2011's would be called F100's and would be of a new design. Don't know how much truth there is to that so take it for what it's worth.

I wouldn't say so. Mid to large sized trucks are no good for companies who deliver small to medium merchandise like car parts, or engineers on the road. Ever since the s10 was killed in 2004, there's no affordable competition to the ranger, in fact, mid-sized trucks barely offer more for a lot more money.

Would you really pay 10-15 grand more for a truck that's less equipped, less power, and has the same towing and payload capabilities?

If i had to buy 30 of them, i sure wouldn't.

Very true. I see many companies using rangers and for the price of a mid-size truck a company can buy at least two rangers. I remember hearing that 2008 was going to be the last year for the ranger yet it is 2010 and they are still being made.

Exactly. A dealership salesman wouldn't know anything besides what Ford has published, and Ford has never actually said they are getting rid of the Ranger. So the sales people are just playing off of the rumor to benefit themselves.

I think the current Ranger is at the end of its product life cycle. Ford seems to be offering less models each year, advertising has been cut back, and outside accessory manufactures are not offering as much as they used too. This all points to a new model in the works in the next few years. The current design is just not getting much attention from Ford or outside suppliers. It might be around for another year or two, but I doubt much longer unless economics dictate otherwise.

x2
...with a 4 cyl ecoboost engine available. ...just to add my two cents. We get little publications at work, I do not know if it has any more definitive information in it than whats out there by other means (doubt it), but it sounds like the truck itself remains part of the line and will be included in it's current innovations.

2011 Ford Ranger Revealed

Ford Motor Company originally put its new Ranger on hold indefinitely because of soaring gas prices. Fuel economy is at the forefront of concerns for Americans who drive more than five miles to work everyday. Since the 2011 Ford Ranger has been revealed, the critics have come out of the woodwork with speculations running rampant with concerns about a weak economy and fuel costs that are constantly fluctuating.

Critics are speculating that the only way that the 2011 Ford Ranger will see success is if it is drastically scaled-down from its predecessors and offers a better fuel economy and better price point than its predecessors.

Features of the 2011 Ford Ranger

The 2011 Ford Ranger will sport a smaller cab offering no standard extended cab like the F150. The Ranger will be manufactured with thinner, high-strength steel for its frame. The hood and tailgate will be made of aluminum. The standard features of the 2011 Ford Ranger include traction control, anti-lock brakes and full-length curtain side airbags.

Advantages of the 2011 Ford Ranger

Ford has pulled the F100 back to the forefront since its retirement in 1983. Ford has decided to adhere to the needs of the consumer and the demands of a badly bruised economy. This approach saves Ford money since they are borrowing a body-design from the 2012 Ford F150 which will be manufactured in the same plants. The lower cost to Ford will trickle down to the consumer. With its smaller body and mainstay design the 2011 Ford Ranger is managing to maintain its reputation, worthiness, and popularity.

Quote:
Ford is revising their vehicles to adhere to the governments mandated rise in light-truck fuel economy from 20.5 mpg to 28.6 mpg by the year 2015. The 2011 Ford Ranger is Fords first mid-size truck which translates into a lighter truck with better fuel-economy.
Found here:
http://www.ford-trucks.com/article/i..._Revealed.html

From this artical, I gather that the Ranger will be coming to an end. All the more reason for me to hang on to the one I have and make it my own.

More speculation on the new F100:

Quote:
The Ford Ranger's just about ready to kick the bucket, gas prices are higher than the dress neckline of a Texas polygamist cult and CAFE standards — well, let's just say they don't leave much room for error on the high side of the gas guzzle range. Sounds like high time Ford announced a new pickup truck, doesn't it? Perhaps. But only if said pickup truck is the purported return of a badge not seen from Dearborn since 1983 — F-100. That's right, we're hearing rumors this morning of a mini-pickup based on the current F-150. Well, it'll be based on the F-150 in look, feel and most importantly not in size. If it's coming, we're told to expect a Ford F-100 at 9/10ths the size of the 2009 Ford F-150 to hit dealer lots in the 2011 model year.

Our friends at PickupTrucks.com are also telling us this morning rumors aren't as far-fetched as one would think. Ford desperately is looking for ways to hold on to their share of the ever-shrinking pickup truck market and if they need to offer a stripped down F-150 on Weight Watchers, they'll do it. Heck, they've even got a pretty sketch of what a new boldly-moving-smaller pickup based on the current F-150 might look like. Expect the real version to look nothing like it. But have a look anyway.
Which I found here: http://jalopnik.com/389430/ford-f+100-coming-in-2011

I'm not impressed with the new look, if indeed that will be changing. I imagine it will be. The Ranger, as it currently is, is a tough little bugger, and it suits me just fine. Sure, we all are here to enjoy our trucks and learn how to make them better by swapping information and passing ideas, But the fact we've chosen the Ranger to base all of that on says something. But, then, I'm preaching to the choir, eh.

With the better half's encouragement, bought a 2010 Supercab XLT yesterday. Concerned that there may not be its equivalent for 2011, I did not want to procrastinate any longer. 4.0, Auto, 4WD, but you guys know all that. Thanks for the advice gentlemen, but rest assured I will undoubtedly posting queries about bed rails, cheap tonneau covers, etc. etc very soon !
