Default update on Ranger Gone

Hello everyone. I thought I would give an update on our 05. the total amount on damage to the truck came in at $7400.00 and change. Allstate informed the dealership to go ahead and repair the truck. I hope they do it right so I can actually keep it but, if I'm uncomfortable afterwards, I will trade it in on a new one. Will keep everyone updated.

Ya kinda surprised they are not totaling it. Ford Dealership is repairing it? I would atleast drive it and see how it rolls before I jumped the gun to trade it in

I would sooner have the insurance company write it off you get more cash for it. Reparing a vehicle after an accident is a bad thing the vehicle is never the same after a big repair from an accident. I would sooner get it back and trade it off myself.

My old mechanic used to buy totalled vehicles, straighten up the frame, and fix everything like new. I couldn't tell they used to be bent before. Depends on the craftmanship of the employee i guess.

If the shop does good work you will be fine. Keep in mind that if & when you trade it in. Because of the damage you will have to disclose. The truck is worth about 25% less. So make sure they know that they are still going to owe you some money for the loss in value due to having a damage discolure againt the title even after they pay to fix it.
Maybe that will change their mind on fixing it vs totaling it.

Thank you very much, I never even considered that as a thought. I will be calling the insurance co. tomorrow and discussing this with them. will let you know what they have to say on this.

Talked to the new car / trade in people at the dealership and was told that if I trade in the 05, I will be offered $2500.00 less than pre accident condition. I called the insurance adjuster and told him that someone is going to owe me that $2500.00 and he said that Michigan is NOT a diminished value state and that the dealers appraiser is trying to undercut me on value. So, I will try another dealer and if it is the same result, I will probably have to contact a lawyer. will keep everyone updated.

That's something that I never thought about either, it makes sense though. Good luck with everything, Tom.

Have the dealer put that in writing for you. Then call the insurance company. Tell them if they want to continue to play games that your next call is to your lawyer. Say " by the way I have been having bad headaches since the accident, do you think I have whiplash?"
