Default My 2000 XLT 5.0 Engine Swap

This will be a very unique swap. I am not a mechanic, I don't even change my own oil. I'm in corporate America and very rarely get my hands dirty. I've always have been interested in motors and off road vehicles. I've watched tv shows for years and have gained a lot of knowledge but no practical experience. I just turned 51 and was diagnosed with parkinsons and things going down hill fast. So I figure I better get this done before I won't be able to get it done. I have already started so I will attempt to catch you up.

She's a 3.0 kind of gutless but I'll fix that....everything works, air conditioner cuts out in the Vegas heat but think I have a fix for that too.

Thanks for the kind words... Yes I am the proud owner of a 1998 Explorer 5.0 AWD. Picked it up for $700 bucks. It has sat for 3 years and the guy needed it gone.

aight so you have everything you need to do the swap. Im actually in the process of building a 5.0 for my truck but its going time carbed

The Explorer is no longer married to its 5.0... It was a tough break up but it's done.. Had to cut off the exhaust due to rusty bolts. After it came out a guy said " ya know,,, if you put in a new cam it would run better..". Wow what that started.....

It does !! Best I can tell it has the torsion bar key lift on 31 inch tires. The guy switched out the 4x4 vacuum hubs for manual lockers, not sure what that will do for the future AWD but I guess we will see....

Sweet! It does look pretty level so that might be all they did. Hoping to get my truck looking like that soon!

Ok...could not stop with just a new cam. I'm in the middle of a major engine rebuild.... I'm going to stay positive but I've never worked on an engine before.... Am I just stupid ???

Parts coming off !! I am using zip lock bags for nuts a bolts, parts and label as I go. If I don't know what it is I have been on YouTube and I've got it figured out. Still positive I can get it done....

A bottom end has a whole new meaning for me now. Oil pan is off and goodbye old oil pump... Not sure how long it's been in there but away with ya....
