For a motor with 186k on it, it does not look to bad..but what would I know right? Good thing Mr. Block has a swim date at the machine shop.

Very cool!! GT40-P heads, well....there off...piston,lifters,rods...there all gone.... Ok.... Over my head a bit here....I'm organized but damm there's a lot of parts here...

So far....purchased the 2000 Ranger 4x4, purchased a 1998 Explorer AWD donor, pulled the engine, removed the transfer case, removed the transmission, tore down the 5.0 to the block and now it's off to the machine shop to clean, magnaflux and bore .30 over. Crank to be balanced and polished, connecting rods checked and cleaned. Time to go shopping for new parts. Retail therapy is a good thing.

My cleaned up GT40-P heads.... 3-angle valve job and trick flow springs... did not go with roller rockers for now, it will give me something to do later on ...

I'm really not set up to paint, hell what am I saying..I'm not set up to change the oil and i have a 302 in parts.... I got bored waiting for the block and went after the valve covers.... hey.... I think that's "Old" Ford Blue !!!! Sure looks purdy......

Nice work!! I was going to suggest upgrading the valve springs... since stock Explorer springs are weak.. but you got that covered already nice job man. Looks like it's going pretty smooth for a newbie lol. Are you keeping it fuel injected? I hope you are, the wiring is basically plug and play.

Nope... Dogs name is NASH and we live in Las Vegas.... Not very original.... I'm keeping it EFI but I do need to solve one issue if anyone knows the answer.... The 1998 Explorer 5.0 has a fuel line and a return line operating at a lower pressure than the 2000 Ranger. I can run a return line I see where it goes on the engine side but not sure on the other end? Or find a 1999 or newer explorer fuel rail that does not need a return... I'm thinking of running the return and change out the Ranger pump with the Explorer to resolve the pressure issue. Just not sure where the tank side goes.

Might be simpler to swap the fuel rail so you don't have to mess with the tank. Unless you have to drop the fuel tank anyway.

I think I have to drop it. Unless someone knows different??? From what I can tell and this is rather uneducated on my part, the Ranger fuel regulator operates at about 60 psi and the explorer at 35-40 psi... If that is a problem (the other direction probably would be) I would need to replace the fuel regulator and I'm thinking it is attached to the fuel pump causing me to drop the tank.... Did I guess right?

It was like Christmas in July in 112 degree Vegas weather...I felt sorry for the UPS guy...well almost... Here is the parts list.

Polished and balanced crankshaft
Cleaned and checked block bored .30 over...
Cleaned and checked connecting rods w new bolts
Comp cam magnum camshaft... Did not go real hot but enough
New racing dirty bearings
New Summit Racing Hypereutectic Pistons .30 over
New rings
Trick flow head dowels
ARP head bolts
Ford Racing GT40-P headers ( update: these hit the steering shaft..replaced with Torque Monsters)
Refurbished GT40--P heads with Trick Flow springs
Ford Racing hydraulic lifters
Comp Cam double roller timing chain and gears
Comp Cam HiTech push rods
Ford Racing high volume oil pump
Ford Racing high volume water pump
Oil filter relocation kit.
Almost forgot.... 2500 stall torque converter for the transmission

That's a start....several small items and more to come."
