basically around 6000 limit of spending.

my bad for mis leading you.
It's hard to suggest anything without knowing what you'll do with the truck. I'd have to say the ranger to keep you in here.

hehe

lol, yeah i kinda like the smaller trucks though. but used for lots of outdoors hunting off road, and commuting. since in about a year i will be driving from Wyoming to Nebraska a lot. I am kinda leaning towards a ranger now that i think about it. =]

Bro if your looking for a full size truck, why wouldn't you want a F-150 instead of a silverado? It's all based on personal interests and opinions, and my personal interest and opinion is, GM BLOWS.

Ford Ftw.
Good luck buddy, maybe you'll catch a break like I did, 2001 Ext. Cab 4x4 4.0L with 6,000 miles on it, yes, no typo, 6K MILES! and ive put about 12,000 since i got it not even a year ago hahah.

Lol me too, but I grew up GM. I've had good luck with my GM's but I still hate the IFS lol I have the Sonoma too, and it has been a great truck. 110k on her and she's still running strong. But I drove my Ranger through a lot of shit, if you're looking at one I'd say go get a Ranger. I wouldn't trade this truck, ever and that's besides my Ranger's history

I drove mine fully loaded with tools, clothes, my mountain bike, off road gear, everything I'd need for the summer to Casper Wyoming from Washington. I got 18 mpg average the whole way from Washington. That was also averaging 70 mph over the two biggest mountain ranges in the States, I have pulled 23 mpg out of my truck. It does suck if you are taller like me after awhile because you don't have a lot of room to move around always. I learned to stop every two hours just to stretch or get a drink. Helped me a ton.

my chevy used to get 13.5 - 14 mpg. after i did my upgrades I got 15-18 mpg. The ranger would by far get the best mileage. My 94 2wd 2.3 gets 21 in town of course I shift like an old man too... (I'm 30)...only cause there is no tach (yet) and it is my mode of transportation to and from work so I don't want to tear it up, that and with 233k miles it's probably not safe to red-line it at every shift like I would've done 10 years ago.

The silverado is able to tow up to 6k lbs with a V8. The ranger prob not more than 3500 lbs. So if towing is a concern go with a full size. you could opt for an ext cab F150 w/ a 300 I-6 (last available in 1996) these trucks tow like no other and get okay gas mileage. I'm also not a fan of the 97-up 4.6 SOHC V8's yes I'm biased to something that actually has a distribtor versus coil packs for an ignition source. I know that my ranger has coil packs but they really haven't given me too much grief yet.

Either way you can't go wrong in my opinion. I have a 99 GMC Sonoma that I like too, it's a bad ass. The trannys on the Chevs can take a shit, but the weak point in my year Ranger is the tranny too. The big thing is making sure they get serviced like any vehicle and how hard you beat on it.
i have to agree i have a 89 chevy 2wd it has no problems in the mud and its all stock and it get about 18 mpg ............. but i'd say it all depends on how you set it up!
