Thinking of buying 2007 Ranger
Hey guys new to forum (obviously) and I am thinking of buying a Ranger. I saw someone a few posts down did what I am looking to do (get advice on a purchase) and wanted to see what you all thought about the price I am getting.
I am looking at a 2007 Ranger Sport 4x4
Its a standard cab (no sliding rear window) straight box bed
Its the automatic with the 3.0V6
manual windows and mirrors
has in-dash cd (factory)
towing package
4-wheel abs (rear drums, GUH!)
it has 58,xxx miles
The stealership is offering it to me for 11,500 + tax and title.
The only thing I requested from them so far was to fix the little rust spots that are forming in front of the rear wheel flares.
Its in decent shape, no dings on the outside and no scratches to worry about (it is after all used and I cannot be too picky). Just looking to find out what you all think.
I know kbb and nada might say its a pretty good deal, however real world prices are what cars buy and sell for and those 2 publications are more so just suggestions and possible starting figures (in my eyes). Let me know, thanks!
If I end up buying it I am sure we all will be talking a lot!

No one have any input? I am just looking for a couple quick yes get it or no dont. I would be picking it up today if I decide on it. I know sex in a ranger is much more exciting to talk about then what I am asking but just a minute of your time would be awesome.

Re: Thinking of buying 2007 Ranger
its not a ford dealership (well kinda not, its mazda). would ford honor the rust protection to me as well (if the rust comes back?). is that a known issue with these trucks?

Holy crap you only waited 31 mins...
I'd say compare the price with a brand new one, since there are a lot of deals on the new models recently, then you'll have something to compare it to.
I'd check out craigslist and whatever website you guys have locally to see if its a good price.

Re: Thinking of buying 2007 Ranger
Check in with the nearest Ford Dealership about the rust protection and Yes Ford has to warrenty it. Just like the standards warrenty for a new vehicle and any recalls made on the vehicle. Its like buy a Dodge truck at a Toyoyta Dealership Toyoyta offers a limited warrenty on the Dodge truck but the full warrenty falls under Chrysler for the truck.

Re: Thinking of buying 2007 Ranger
Usually around here, Rangers sell for over KBB price, so why not? And yeas, Ford should honor the warranty on rust, no matter who owns it.

Re: Thinking of buying 2007 Ranger
That's a pretty good price for those options.
Unless you have to buy it right now, I'd shop around (try carmax, they usually have some good prices and easy to navigate site, plus they transfer your truck for free if it's close enough) local dealerships. If you are going to use that tow package I'd hold out for a 4.0 and pay a little more (maybe even same price). They get pretty much the same MPG and have more power/torque for towing.

Re: Thinking of buying 2007 Ranger
I appreciate all the advice so far. I am not going to use it to tow...unless one day I buy a jet ski (which I am hoping the 3.0 would be sufficient for something like that).
I do not have to buy it right now, actually I have plenty of time to buy it. I do not NEED a new vehicle now, however I do not want to pass up a great deal.
My current car is a 92 honda accord with 235k on it. Needless to say its day may be soon. I am starting a commercial cleaning business and would benefit from the bed of the truck to move my equipment around. Plus the everyday utilitarian-features of a truck for day to day stuff would be nice to have.
I have checked locally and cannot seem to find a better price, however all the other places I have found the vehicle for sale were at dealerships... so, I wanted to get some opinions from some of you guys since I trust unbiased opinions from people that live and breathe these vehicles.

Re: Thinking of buying 2007 Ranger
To be honest I rather a 4 banger over the 3.0. I got a 3.0 without researching it too much (kind of a impulse purchase because of the price and the sport model looks awesome). After reading into it more I probably would have passed it up. A 4 banger will net you +5-10 MPG and give you pretty much the same performance as the 3.0. I owned a I4 for nearly 10 years and it never was unable to do something I needed (towing a small trailer, pay loading it to the gills etc). My next ranger purchase is going to be either a I4 XLT or 4x4 4.0V6 Sport. I have no real complaints about my truck, other than I feel like I'm driving a 4 banger but only get 18-20 mpg instead of 30 mpg. But that's just my opinion.

Thank you for the input. I guess I am the most moronic person in the planet because I never pay attention to mpg of a vehicle. It is a non-issue to me. If there is reliability differences I would consider, however if its just mpg I am not too worried.
I just got off the phone with a service guy at ford he said the 3.0 engine and tranny is solid (whether he was blowing smoke up my ass is another story). He also almost confirmed the rust would be covered (said he had to see to be 100%)
I have looked through cragslist, cars.com, carmax, traderonline, ebaymotors. This seems to be the best deal by at least a grand or so. So unless anyone has any crazy horror story or some reason not to buy I think I might be buying one of these damn things tonight.

Re: Thinking of buying 2007 Ranger
the 3.0 is a very reliable engine...just not guts to it, may as well get the 4 banger with the same power but better mpgs. or go 4.0 and get the same mpg as the 3.0 but faster.

Re: Thinking of buying 2007 Ranger
faster gets me in trouble haha. so 4.0 is out of question. plus I am sure (since they seem to be very popular) they go with a premium price tag. i guess maybe thats why the one I am looking at seems to be such a good price? 3.0 not as good gas mileage yet similar power to the 4-banger yet no where near as powerful as the 4.0. its an engine with the middle child syndrome. And no one wants the middle child lol.
