3.0s are more plentiful. Unless you get lucky you can't find a newer 4x4 4.0 for near that price.

A pickup should never be about mpg, or i would have kept my car with a smaller more economical 2.2l, but more hp/torque than a 2.3l ranger.

well they discontinued the 3.0 last year or the year before IIRC. Also, the 3.0 on a 4x4 is only found on reg cabs after 01. So if you were to get an ext cab 4x4 you would have a 4.0.
