cab swap VS no cab swap??
So i totalled my truck but it is fixable with a lil bit of work.. I was planning to cut off the roof, bend the pillars back in place and then weld on a new roof but ive been told thats going to be alot harder than a cab swap. so im debating im only seventeen and i dont have a ton of money to put into the truck. i love my ranger but i dont know how much i can really do. Im wondering what the price difference would be between a whole new cab swap compared to just doing the plan i originally planned. if i do choose to weld on a new roof, i have to buy new airbags(which i just bought) new front and back window, new passenger door, and a few other things, but if i just buy a whole new cab all i would need from there is a new bumper.. I need help.. help me decide what would be more cost efficent and easier??

Re: cab swap VS no cab swap??
Call I5 auto for a price on a good cab, you also need to call state patrol and see what it would take to get it licensed. But by far I think as far as time and money you are way easier pulling a cab and setting it on your truck then buy cutting your cab and trying to fix it. If you pull a cab all you need to do is the plug ins for the systems and a few bolts. Cutting the roof, fixing the pillars and then repaint...that just isn't worth that much work to me.

Re: cab swap VS no cab swap??
Got any info on the truck???? year, cab, trans, # of doors???
I5 Auto & Truck Parts there off exit 71 has TONS of good cabs out there. Just depends on what cab you actually have. I'd say cab swap is best.....alot more bang for the buck IMO. Sure...it's still alot of work, BUT....I think in the end it'll be alot easier on the pocket book.
Also check out www.car-part.com . It's an online database of junkyards and their inventories.
EDIT: Checked your intro thread.....'98 stepside reg cab. So I looked it up....
Prices $250 - $750 for a cab according to car-part. ALOT of "call for prices" though. Never know...might get lucky at I5. I usually do. And don't worry about Auto vs. Manual....that's only a steering column and pedal assembly away from switching. Something also....If you've got grey interior, you may luck out and upgrade your interior color to dark grey if you get a 00+ cab.

you are awesome! lol so cabs are interswichable between some years?? i wonder if 96 will swich with 98 cause i found a full built cab at pick-apart.. i didnt ask for the price cause it was the wrong year.... but i wonder.. they normally have a really good price out there (in tumwater) I called about my roof and new pillars and it said it would only cost me $50 for both... so seems like they are pretty good with pricing.

Re: cab swap VS no cab swap??
98+ cabs are different than '97 and older cabs.....that swap wouldn't be very good. Not only is the back window different, the cab lengths are different. lol.

Re: cab swap VS no cab swap??
I wouldn't sell those just yet.... Most likely when you get a cab, it won't have bags.
And I'm sorry to put it to ya like this....$400 budget isn't going to get you much. Especially an entire cab w/ doors and good windows. I'd still call I5 to see what they've got. I've got a ton of pics from there and their inventory...just don't know prices. Have you checked out craigslist? I'm pretty sure Seattle craigslist has a couple ads of parting out reg cabs.

From what ive been told it sounds like its going to be easier too, any wrong measurment can throw the whole truck off, if i cut off the roof and welded on a new one.
