Default General 4x4 Ranger question

I currently own a 93 2wd Ranger. I want to get a 4wd Ranger soon. What years/packages or other gotchas should I look out for? I plan on using it as my DD with maybe a little of off roading on the weekends.

Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Super generic question... what is your budget? What are you looking at... not looking at... etc? The twin stick FX4 Level II Rangers are very well liked and hard to come by...

At the minimum I would suggest a 4.0 engine.

Dont really have a planned budget now. I want to see what's out there and what I should be looking for.

I want something around 10yrs old or 100k miles or less. Prefer the 4.0 manual if I can find it auto will suffice xtended cab.

As much as I would LOVE a FX4, I'm not going to hold my breath.

98-00 Has the cool tosion bars that can level the front of the truck...but if you go to lift higher, there a PITA!!! (Same setup on EDGES) Though 98-00 Probably has the most flaws of all the Rangers, lol I have one and still love it....
If your smart, go 97 or older though, simple suspension, hopefully they have wheel bearings, not wheel hub bearing which cost $$$. And probably a better EGR setup if any (Idk), but thats what I'd recommend....

97 Ford Ranger XLT --4.0L Manual ext.cab with 4.10 gear ratio

If its your DD, then you prob shouldn't be beating on it too much more then this can handle, hense, it'll get you where you wanna go...

But if you see a Fx4...then thats ideal!
