Re: What did you do to your ranger today thread
Well today I and the Ranger took a 32 mile short cut through the national forest and we hit something that punched a tire.
So the TPMS light comes on and I stop at a wide spot to look and sure enough, the right front tire is going flat.
I'm in my good work clothes, as in, starched shirt ready to go to the office ...
Given that it was on a gravel road the tire change went as well as could be expected, and I took the tire to local shop to have it repaired. The belt was busted.
End of the day, a new Goodyear Wrangler 235/70 15 cost me $136.61 on sale, and not to forget, several hours lost.

That sucks, but at least you were safe. Was the cost of the tire prorated because that doesn't seem too bad of a cost for that tire?

Yes, that was a good price and there's a story there.
After getting the spare on the truck I went to a local shop I've used for years to have the flat tire checked and plugged or patched. After patching the tire it bulged, and the service manager told me the belt was trashed. However, they don't sell Goodyear tires and I didn't want to put an odd tire on the vehicle with three Goodyears.
So she (yes, very savvy female manager) called a local Goodyear store and got the price for me, and they were waiting on me when I got there.
When the guy at the desk rang up the sale he said, "$171.35."
I said, "whoa -- the price they quoted the other shop on the phone was $136.61 out the door, mounted and balanced."
So, he checked the notes on the computer and the first guy had mistakenly quoted me the sale price that that went off two weeks ago. However, the price off-sale is $157.00.
Years ago I was a customer service guy and I know mistakes can happen, so I volunteered to split the difference with them on the price. They insisted on honoring the quoted price.
If the first guy had not made the call notes in the system it would have seemed (from the desk guy's side) like I was trying to beat them out of something.
So yeah, I got a good price and they have probably earned my business forever.

Re: What did you do to your ranger today thread
^ Wow. Awesome, and rare that shops are like that because they would typically rather try to get more money than do the right thing. I just put Mastercraft Avenger tires on my Ranger at $106/tire + $14/tire mount/balance + tax, so I know that tires aren't inexpensive.

Thanks! hoping to get more MPGs and take some of the abuse of a 100 mile daily commute off my JKU. If rather keep the JKU as a weekend toy.
