My plan was to get a replacement and have it rebuilt then just swap it when I have time, but I feel like it'll be more involved than that for some reason

Just get a low milage replacement from the junk yard. And swap it only takes about 30-60min to put in. Then when you get time rebuild your old one as a back up.

That's actually not a bad idea, I don't know why I thought about doing it the opposite way. This way I'd have a spare

That's definitely the best option..I had a AWD olds bravada that the T-case chain came loose n it cost me Damn near a grand to get it fixed,wish I'd of attemptd the shit myself

Removed all the front sheetmetal, hood, header panel, grill, bumper, taillights, remainin exhaust, & pulled all the bed bolts to remove it.
