If you watch t.v., Lube Stop is running a special commercial that a select few of its locations and a couple stand-alone State Emissions testing centers are self-serve vs. having to take the vehicle to a State Emissions Center during normal business hours. The state couldn't scrap the program because we are under contract with the independent company that does the testing, but I believe that the state subsidizes the fee now, which is why it is "free" for most drivers. If one fails, then he/she can get retested, I believe, also free within 30 days, but after the 3rd time, the driver is charged. The whole program is a scam and an added tax by the EPA because, again, how many new cars fail? I think it is under 1%, and cars are so much more efficient today, but drivers log more miles. Also, only certain counties, and surrounding counties, with the worst air pollution are targeted, which is unfair. When the program started, drivers were using false addresses to avoid having to pay the fee and undergo the hassle. Plus, I could still illegally drive w/o performing the necessary work to my vehicle to make it comply with the EPA standards.
Must just be the county you're in...I've never had it done with any of my vehicles

This is the wrong thread for all this but Hell ill say it anyway emmision test are for densely populated areas to make sure a mass of them aren't polluting emmission wise in a big group. And every state has its own little nit picks on the way they think is safe basically just a bunch of suit congressmen saying what they heard is right so that's my say and I'm a nc licenced inspector.

I don't know how many counties in Ohio have the testing, but it is b.s. that only certain counties and surrounding counties are required.

You're lucky, and correct. I live in Cuyahoga County and it is required, along with at least one border county, Medina County.

No kidding. That is why it is a crock. Also, air travels, along with all the pollution, so even counties "that don't have a problem" with air pollution do. Also, Cleveland was recently credited with still being one of the most polluted areas in the state, so how does testing autos help -- esp. if most newer cars don't pollute anyway. It is a tax fair and simple disquised by the EPA and government bafoons for the purpose of claiming better air quality.

Putzed around with little stuff on the 2011. Installed one of those plastic gun racks for a shovel and an axe to hang on. Tweaked the bed platform a bit. Nothing big.
