The zip ties take up the slack caused by cable stretch. You are right though, it does make a difference.

Drove it to Kings for breakfast.

Took her to get fueled up for my date tonight, and saw that the price of gas went down a few cents!

Got the windows tinted and put a lighted explorer sunvisor on the passenger side. Started looking into building a small sub enclosure to fit into the rear seat cubby-hole. Also, discovered that all my tires are 10lbs light on air, D'OH!

No cat for Shaun or Pat! LOL!

You do man. Even with the small amount of cable stretch my Ranger had, it made a world of difference. The F100 was just downright horrible, so accelerator cable stretch doesn't just apply to Rangers/Explorers. Too bad the F100 doesn't run right, I imagine that truck got a world of difference in it.

Funny...I just finished the same MOD

Default How to: Throttle Cable mod
This seems to be pretty common knowlage, but if anybody doesn't know, here it is:

Over time, the throttle cable stretches and the housing seats more into its ferruls, thus, adding play to the gas pedal. You never feel this because a) it happens so slowly and the gas pedal drops down more so theres no "free" period (where you push on the pedal and nothing happens) while youre pressing on the gas. This is an easy fix, and its free. All you need is a few zip-ties and 10 minutes.

Crawl under your dash and find the throttle cable. There's two of them under there, one is the right one, the other one I have no idea what it does, but dont zip tie it. What you want to do is pull the gas pedal off the floor and wrap as many zip ties as you can fit around the excess throttle cable sticking out. I fit three around mine and the difference is huge. Once you've done this, your truck can fully achieve a wide opened throttle. My friend Tom did this and claims his truck down shifts smother now. Whether of not it helps shifting is up to you. I dont know. But you will get better response at the pedal.

I know this works on Rangers and Explorers, I'm not sure what else.
