Isn't a Pontiac Vibe the equivalent of a Toyota Matrix - at least the same engine? I've heard mixed reviews.

Yet, the number one selling vehicle in America (and competed with the Honda Accord successfully) for how many years? The only issues my dad had with his was the blower motor, a window motor, and the transmission. My mom has had only one issue with her 03' Taurus and that was the neutral safety switch. My dad's Taurus had maybe 90K when he traded it in, and my mom's is going strong with only 55K, and she is terrible on cars.
my gf had one, it ate 3 or 4 rack and pinions. They are garbage and she wont ever own another ford because of it.

The windshields are expensive as hell for some reason. My buddie needed a new one and told me it cost $750.

Ford Edge is based off the same chassis and seems to last, though, the vehicle was introduced in 07'. I had our tranny fluid exchanged at 45K when we bought out the lease, and we are currently at 91K+ with no issues.

havent had any Edges come in and have problems. Have a lot of them come in with 120k plus miles with no leaks. Then we have Taurus' that have 30k and have leaking oil pans, axle shaft seals and valve covers....
But this is getting off topic

OP-- Nice car i hope you enjoy it

Hey if I could have afforded it I would have loved to get a taurus or a fusion. Neither had the mpg I needed at the price I wanted. I manage to get this from the sticker price of just over $22,000 down to $15,995 for a brand new car.

The Taurus in the late 80's/early 90's when it was introduced.

Density of fuel and needing more in cold weather. I had some shaking at idle today in the Ranger after it had been warmed-up. No stalling and no CEL, but I expected the vehicle to shut-off it was moving so violently.

I drive about 600 miles a week so mpg is very important for my wallet. I cant make any money if I'm spending half of it on gas. I will save about $190 a month just in fuel and then on top of that I dont have to pay for any other maintenance.

Nothing 'top secret', they just didn't score well against some of the more popular Toyota options, which is why it was dropped.
Oh you are one of those guys my techs hate lol. So you mean ergonomics and style wise? I know they aren't very popular, but I thought you meant mechanically they are bad cars, which hasn't been my experience. Either way Matrix was just an example. Any car in that class could have worked for me, but for obvious reasons I usually lean Toyota.

But, they use the same weak Taurus transmission, correct?

I'm not in the design division, this was an overall review, mechanical, styling, handling, comfort, etc.

This combined with poor sales led to the decision to drop it.

My Dad's '03 has 185k miles with not a single issue. Still running oem brake pads on the rear and fronts were changed at 145k. This is his 3rd Taurus with similar results.
