I don't know about the rest of the trucks here but on my '01 the tach shows about 300 rpm too fast @ 70.

Everyone here seems to be full of shit.

When you plug in almost all the numbers being reported here into a rpm formula and compare it to what people post, no way.

Some of you are off by a full 1,000 RPMs.

However my guess is people here just have no clue how to read their tach. Too bedazzled by chrome and latest cosmetic gadgets bolted on.......

4.10 gears at 80mph with 235/75R15 (most common tires mounted) will pull 3,826 RPM. 33" tires bring it down to a whopping 3339 RPM.

It's good to know some bozo named Boris 2,500 miles away knows my truck better than I do. Or it's set up. Rather amazing skill you must have, sir...

FWIW, I am pulling 2050 RPM at 80 MPH. I dont give a shit how far away you live either. I know how my truck runs!

Im just amazed this thread made it so far without someone calling BS with even the most rudimentary concept of how a transmission revs compared to gear ratio to tire height. They taught that crap in highschool shop class. I remember it and that was over half my life ago.

If y'alls truck is pulling 3K at 80mph with 4.10s and normal tires, then you need to fix something, its broke.

Highschool math. Here is your actual RPM. Plug your numbers in.

rpm = (mph x gear ratio x 336) / tire daimeter

So according to boring, I should be running 645 rpm at 70. Ummmm....ya right.

(Mph x gear x 336) / tire = rpm

So lets plug in the numbers.

Speed x 5th ratio x 236/75-15 = rpm

(70 x .79 x 336) / 28.8 = ?

(18,580.8) / 28.8 = 645.16

Uhhhh.. you wrong, brah.

I turn 2400 at 70

Go to Richmond gearing's online calculator and see what you get.

Diff gear ratio. 3.73, 4.10, 4.56 ect.

I don't think that formula takes in account overdrive.

Yes, you are full of shit. You shouldn't be calling people stupid. We are all capable of reading a tach without a problem, there is no "Highschool" math involved. I know damn well that my truck runs at 2500-2600 RPMs at 70 MPH and it is not "broke". Good day sir.
