Default Ranger advice needed

So here's the story; this is basically going to be my first truck ever. I'm in Civil Engineering, so that would involve some visiting to certain construction sites. I'm wanting a Ranger over an F150 because I don't think I'm going to be needing all of what an F150 can offer, plus it's a bit too expensive for me right now.

My biggest thing would be Ford vs a Dodge Dakota. I'm strongly leaning towards Ford because I've done a fair bit of research over the two, but I don't have a lot of decent peer to peer input, so that's kind of why I've come here; to ask you guys your opinions on the Ranger, such as longevity of parts, durability, how well it can perform over rough terrain, etc.

Oh yes, I'm definitely opting for the 4x4 Ranger, super cab. I think that's about it for now lol

You will be very happy with the ranger, and as long as you take care of it... it will take care of you.

I have 100k on my 4.0 2wd ranger edge and I have literally beaten the crap out of it. I tow a 16 foot dual axle trailer, have towed another ranger on it, load it to the max all the time, drive it with my foot to the floor all the time.

The dakotas are nice and I was looking at one of the 4 doors, but overall I think the ranger is a nicer truck. If you ever want to start lifting the truck there are alot more options for the ranger, and the dakota frame is pretty weak compared to the ranger... which means with lots of offroad abuse it will need some reinforcement around the arm mounts.

I vote for ranger!

there really is not a weak spot on the ranger, it is a good all around truck

Absolutely, my thoughts exactly. I went around to the various dealerships and you know how they have the display with their cotter pins or anchor bolts, etc. Ford's parts look to be pretty damn solid in comparison. Also, for the amount of money I would've spent on a brand new F150 with everything I've wanted, I could put most of it towards a Ranger and still come out less. I think I'm sold on the Ranger
