Default 2000 ford ranger? serious problems?

Ok im pretty sur ei have a blown headgasket..but i think it might be a lot worst than just that? for one there a very loud knocking noise from engine bay and can be heard under the cab too. gets louder as acceleration is pressed. also feels like a tremendous loss of power onc ei get above 40 its like it dont wanan run it wants to shake and shut down. clouds of smoke coming from exhaust and the noise is constant it never lets up. oil is fine no water not thin but seems like its not getting pressure at all? even though the gage says its ok? any ideas?

Loud knocking is not a good sound. You may have thrown a connecting rod; you may have connecting rod bearing failure, You may have a cracked or broken piston. You may have bent valves. You may have a cooling system leak into the combustion chamber which will give you clouds of white smoke. You may have a combination of other problems. Go to see a mechanic ASAP to see if he can do a computer diagnosis on your knocking problem. I doubt that this is all coming from a bad head gasket. You may want to consider installing a rebuilt or refurbished engine for your Ranger.
