Default Custom heim steering

I'm building heim steering for my truck. I should have the rest of the parts I need this weekend and then will be doing the swap asap. If anyone is interested in a set of their own let me know and I will start pricing out a bolt on "kit"

Parts list:
3/4" Heims for the inners
7/8" Heims for outers
Custom machined and tapered pin for outer tie rods
Machined clevises for inner tie rod pivot

Heres a little teaser pic for you guys.

Old rack is out, tie rods are finished. Still trying to find a way to use a boot so that I dont have the rack exposed.

Pulling this out from the grave haha....how those working out for ya?

I'm getting closer to getting my fabtech kit ordered but I want some extra safety so I'll be doing the heim swap at the same time. Camburg makes a pretty sweet one for our trucks

Not a good idea for street driving....They wear out knuckles pretty fast I've heard, anybody back me up on that info?

I am aware of the knuckle issue I'll back that up. But I get cost plus 10% through work so i'd rather replace knuckes every so often instead of having my tire roll by me because of an a-arm failing haha. I plan on doing some light offroading and the fabtech kits aren't the best lol

That's a good way to look at it. I juggled the thought of a heim set up when I build my '86 F250 but I drive it too much on road as well

you dont wear out knuckles, you wear out the heims. They dont like road grime getting in them and they get sloppy and loose faster because of it. This is why OEM's use TRE's with grease and dust boots.

They are working great, they started making some noise but I lubed them with some dry silicone spray and its been good so far.

The camburg one is only the inner heim and you end up using the stock outers.

Install isnt too bad as long as you have basic mechanical knowledge and know how to turn a wrench. Price will be around 600 for these because they have custom machined pins for the outers, 4 heims, 4 misalignment spacers, 2 machined inner clevises, 4 weld in bungs plus the tubing and labor. IT adds up fast.

Never heard of that. As long as everything is tight in the knuckle it shouldnt wear out. I have custom machined pins that fit just like the ball joint taper.

Not sure why your tire would roll and an a arm would fail if you are running stock steering.

Fabtech kits are just fine as long as you know their limits. I have been running a fabtech spindle for years with no problems and really beat on the truck out in the desert. IF you have it all bumped/drooped correctly with decent shocks and know the limits of the truck it is just fine.

Mine is on the road 95% of the time and no problems here.

Correct, there is a lining inside the heim that can wear out
