Bottle jack question
I don't work on my truck as often as many, so I m looking at a bottle jack instead of a more expense floor jack.
Here is what I found: http://www.tractorsupply.com/powerbu...-stand-1160455
It says "jack stands included". If they mean the jack stand looking thing attached to the side, wouldn't I still need another one for the other side to change a Sway bar link, do brakes pads....?

Re: Bottle jack question
If you want to raise both sides you will need two of them.

Re: Bottle jack question
just get a floor jack...much much safer IMO because the base is wider

Re: Bottle jack question
They work great for fixing a flat tire...but the down fall is you can only lift one side. There good to pack away in the truck.

Re: Bottle jack question
Thanks guys, I was afraid of that. Any inexpensive floor jack recommendations?

Re: Bottle jack question
i have that jack and can lift up the whole front of my truck no problem. when doing the brakes, it's nice to do one side at a time anyways so if you don't remember how something goes together you can look at the other side. it's nice too since i'm lifted now, the jack has a 'neck' that you can extend to get right up to the frame or whatever before you even start jacking up. and since there's a built in jack stand you can crank it up till the stand locks and don't have the thought of the jack failing and the truck falling on you.
for a floor jack, get a popular mechanics magazine or any car/truck mag really. flip to the ads in the back and find the harbor freight one. hopefully you have one near you, they have 1.5 ton aluminum jacks for like $60, or a 20% off coupon if there's no jack coupon. i can sit that under the center pumpkin of my rear end and get the tires off the ground no problem, its too short to lift the front though.

If you can lift the whole front, would you recommend it then?
I figure at that price and buying two jack stands, it's still pretty affordable.

Re: Bottle jack question
Well, I ended up getting this a Sears for $49:

Only lifts to 15" but oh well, it was cheap.

Re: Bottle jack question
yeah i love the jack in your first post, too bad you didn't get it. my brother got a jack similar to the one you got at sears and i just don't trust the thing, it's really small and i feel like it's going to break on me at any second.
