Nut Splitter, Not What You Think It Is.
I'm in the process of replacing my front gasket on my 94 4.0L Ranger, and the nuts holding the cats to the flanges are rusted to all hell, So I was wondering would using a "Nut-Splitter" like this:
http://www.farmandfleet.com/products...Nut%2bSplitter
work for removing the frozen/locked nuts from the studs on the catalytic converters?

Re: Nut Splitter, Not What You Think It Is.
So, essentially it's a good tool to buy if I plan on doing alot of work with rusty hardware?

i would just cut them off and replace all the hardware. if you have a cut off wheel or a torch already, no real need to buy another tool.

I'd torch it first. get it red hot, then start to twist it a bit.
if that failed. I'd cut it off with a wheel, then weld it when i put it back together.

Re: Nut Splitter, Not What You Think It Is.
Would I just cut the back of the stud, thats before the nut? or try to get the head of the stud cut off?

Re: Nut Splitter, Not What You Think It Is.
You said your trying to get the Flange before you Catalytic off correct? If thats the case, you can weld all that stuff back together. or just re drill and bolt it.

Re: Nut Splitter, Not What You Think It Is.
Heat the nuts until cherry red and it'll break the rust bond.
