no but had a recliner in the bed and 1220 lbs on a trailer behind me
and the tires did not slip ONCE!

/\/\/\ this, both stake holes with a rail running between them would work great, no reinforcements necessary, if the stake holes can handle a ladder rack, sometimes we even load it with treated lumber, it'd definately handle a modern lightweight mountain bike

i have something that im making like yours. it will sit in the bed but flush with the top. its going to have a turtle shell in the middle with a bike rack on each side. hard to understand i know but ill try to get some pictures when im done

Why not mount these
HERE (Assuming your toolbox is similar to Mikes)
Then you could modify the tracks to sit on a post for the rear stake holes. That would get your bikes "on the bed rail" and would be as secure as your toolbox and however you decide to clamp the track down. I'd think that a couple of canopy clamps should be enough for the tracks.
Edit, you could probably even attach the front ends of the wheel tracks to the toolbox as well.
