well for welding i have a friend that can do that for me..all i have to do is present the parts exactly how they have to go together..and im pretty good at that kind of stuff. I become very OCD about making sure everything comes out right and equal on both sides lol.

hellz ya! and also its alot cheaper lol. But for real though ya i think its awesome to make stuff your self. cuz it comes out exactly how i would like it. And i can add lights to it and stuff. maybe even some white neons underneath the bar that light up when i open the doors o.o

ya for sure i will try to do it right. I get OCD about things like that..i dont like stuff coming out flimsy...What i figure i would do is buy actual mounting brackets for my truck...so that way i know for sure that i have a sturdy foundation....and from there i will make the steps my self and most likely weld my creation onto the brackets and find little ways to make it sturdy'er.

Fabbing up my Jeep Cherokee's rocker guards took about 3hrs on a Sunday afternoon.

I used 1.75"X0.188" Wall HREW tube, cut to length with mitered ends for clearance. Single tube, mounted 3" OUT from door bottom (to help protect lower door and rocker). With 6 tubes on each side (each 12" apart) connecting the tubes directly to the frame.

So essentially a tube ladder on both sides, with all the same tube, no brackets, no mounts, no BS to break.

I have been T-boned with the rocker guards on and I got pushed sideways 8ft but no dents in the tube, held up like a champ.

In this picture you can see the lower tube, and just barely see 2 of the 6 supports going perpendicular into the side of the frame rail
Welded the long tube to the 6 short tubes on the garage floor, then set it up with jackstands and torched it to the frame.

The rocker guards were built before the cage, it was added later

GO for it!

Cost from various brands for equal strength guards are $300-$450.
Total cost with all steel and welding wire/gas: $100,

--cut--
both sides being equal don't matter...it's the middle that's important.
