I believe you are asking me, yes? I have been welding as a career for 12 years, but was welding as a kid starting around 14, so a total of 1bout 16 years. My dad has heavy machinery for his company and I learned to weld on back hoe buckets, tracks, etc. After that I turned it into a career with what I do now. I know they make rod for about anything imaginable, as i have used a great deal of it. However, for someone who has never welded before I was merely suggesting an easy and quality way for the man to learn the craft. If you weld every day and you know how to run the puddle and work the arc, then by all means take a stab at arc welding on a vehicle. Chances are, though, that it would end up looking like some took a handful of metal beads and threw it at the sheet metal with some of them sticking.

There are so many products out there right now that things have changed dramatically even for me. I see these kids come out to weld now that have learned things that I wish were available to me when I went through schooling. Makes me feel old! LOL
Nah, you weren't being a jerk. I may have miss wrote it a bit which is my fault. Yeah what you're talking about only comes from exp. You started welding about when I finished highschool (I quit for 2 years then went back, smartest thing I ever done was to go back and finish highschool). That would be an ultra easy way for him to get started. I know what mean about feeling old, I hit 40 in 4 more years man. When I took welding in highschool and finished I never even seen a plasma cutter before. I still aint used one either. It must be that age thing, L.O.L. I just can't believe I found a Lincoln Electric welder in walmart of all places and for less than $300.00 bucks and the fluxcore was right at $300.00 bucks. most decent welders start at that price and go from there. The most expensive one I've seen in person was around $8,000 bucks which is at Factory Five Racing, but it wouldn't surprise me to see them go much higher.

It wasn't the pedal that gave me fits, it was hard for my hands to use. I always use my right hand to feed the rod, and the left to hold the tig torch. Instructor always gave me fits about it. He did cross the line when he tried to smack my hand, he left me alone when I threw a piece of sheet metal at him and chased him into a office. witnesses came forward, and he ended up getting fired. Aparently, in another class he hit someone and they whooped his ass.

They got a new instuctor shortly after that and he was pretty kool. He showed me what I was doing wrong and said weld the way you feel comfortable with but don't rush it. It's very teadeous work, and what looks like virtually no progress, turns out to be alot. It took him showing me the progress and talking me through what I had accomplished. That's when it occurs to you of how teadeous it can be.
