Default Bed rack / RTT rack

Hey everyone!

Long time lurker here but figured I'd post my project.

I hadn't welded anything in years and now I'm hooked again!

Anyways, here's my bed rack that I build primarily to carry my roof top tent.
Needs to be powdercoated still, but considering adding a couple things before that.

Anyways, hope you guys like it. I've got a decent amount if use out if it already.. Plenty durable.

Looks good as far as I can see.

I'm assuming you made it lower to compensate for the tent on top with wind noise and possibly fuel mileage, if I am right but I think you could be missing out on some valuable real estate spaces on the sides of the rack for some gear and in the bed too which is why anyone ive seen making racks for trucks like that brings them up level with the roof or just a bit higher so they can attach a light bar maybe across the top front too..

Overall, I like what you're doing. And although it may come across that I am bagging on it. I'm just stating obvious improvements to help out functionality.

go through my build page you'll see

Well this is an extremely late reply.. But oh well - Figured I'd update after getting quite a bit of use.

It was built this way intentionally to have the tent at the roofline for a few reasons:
- Fuel economy
- Keep the weight low (loaded roof racks and high mounted tents don't do well off-road)

As for real estate, I have since incorporated a h-lift mount and shovel mount on the side of the rack, and will be mounting Maxtrax to the other side next.

The height was selected with the intention of fitting all camping gear with room to spare. My Pelican Elite 70qt cooler fits under the rack and that's the tallest thing I would need to carry while camping.

The rack is easy to remove when not required.
Overall I like the look of this setup and don't plan to go to a taller rack.

I've actually built and sold a couple for other people since.
