Hi guys,

I am new here. 2001 White Edge 4x4. My truck was rear ended a couple of years ago and I got the insurance company to sell it to me at the salvage price. The frame is bent in the back on one side and the bed is a little jacked but everything else has been fixed. I got the rear reciever straightened and rewelded with some reinforcement. It now has 120K on it and I am going to drive it till the wheels fall off.

Anyway, I started thinking. This sport side bed just doesn't do it for me. I need more room and would like to build or have something built that is more functional to fit my needs. I am a hunting guide half the year.

Any ideas or pics that you know of with custom beds would be a great help.

I've got some custom bed plans in the distant future. Not many pics out there for rangers, but check out some of the yota sites for ideas. I've found tons of pics of yota's with custom beds that that have made it onto the idea list.

what do u mean by custom bed?

like a flat bed? tube bed? bobbed bed? doved bed?

Well, I guess a flatbed with other stuff on it... a couple of boxes (I need a dog box) a tool box, spare tire rack, jack rack, maybe an overhead rack for a canoe. That sort of stuff

Never seen a tubed, bobbed or doved bed. Or if i did I didn't know what they were.

Tubed bed:


Bobbed bed (basically a shortened bed used for offroading... in extreme offroad condition you might end up hitting your rear bumper or hitting the rear of the bed, so bobbing would help avoid that):


Dovetail truck bed (this is an addition to a bobbed bed, but doesn't have to be. It basically involves removing the sides of the bed, and angleing them inside making a kind of triangle if looking at the top of the box):

I guess what Im looking for is kind of a flat bed, tube bed, with additions.

That first pic looks like a good start. put a dog box in between the wheel well and the drivers side cab, a couple of tool boxes over the wheel wells, a couple of smaller boxes below the flatbed. I have always wanted a compressed air bumper too.

so what it sounds like to me is that you almost want a custom utility bed...
