If it's a one time use, just "rent" it from Advance. You pay something like $60 up front, but you get it all back when you return it.

Yep. I think it's something like $30 to buy it, but when I did mine, I think it was a $60 deposit, you keep it as long as you need it, and when you return it, they refund your money.

They rent it. And it is inexpensive. Use it return it, get your $ back.
OR rent it don't return it.
Their rent a tools are available for purchase and have a life time warranty.
I have Advanced ball joint kit, I made them order me a new one. It is great for U joints and other uses...one of my fav tools.

Isn't just a 10mm wrench? Were talking about the 4 bolts on the fan attached to the water pump such as on the 2.3l? Correct?

There's a big wrench that fits over the 4 bolts to hold the water pump shaft in place while your remove the fan and clutch assembly (I'm pretty sure it's reverse threaded, btw).

You can remove the water pump with the fan and clutch still attached (I did because I didn't have the tool yet). That might give you better access to remove the fan and clutch.

Once you get the fan out of the way, there's just a bunch of bolts that hold it on.

Clean the mating surface really well to remove all the old gasket material before you put it back on.

It might also be a good time to replace the timing chain since you've already got the front of the motor torn apart.

We just hold the fan and the bolts come out with relative ease. obviously they are tight but haven't had a problem yet. Maybe its different on a 1992 2.3L.

Just go buy a small length 2ft of flat steel at lowes or homedepot etc. Its like 4 or 5 bucks or so. Drill a hole about the same size as water pump pulley bolt. Unbolt the water pump pulley and insert your flat stock bolt it up and brace it off of the ac or other area use common sense here. Turn it till you get it braced and crank it off. This is what I did. Worked with no problem and cheap if you got something laying around the garage. I hate renting tools. If you need a pic I can try to grab mine and show you I think its still laying in front of my top tool box. Some clutches are hard to get off and mine was fairly easy.

That would work.

I didn't mind renting since I work a few blocks from Advance and you get all your money back when you return the tool.

I'll just leave the fan attached since I'm just doing the water pump gasket.
