Color matched grill
Hey guys I used the duplicolor rattle can to color match my grill today. It's dark out but from what I can tell it looks pretty sick. Anyway I'm gonna buy the clear coat for it tomorrow, I was just wondering if anyone has ever done this and have any advice for finishing touches?

Re: Color matched grill
I didn't clearcoat mine. I sanded it and then sprayed it with an adhesion promoter.
Then it was painted with a basic Acrylic Enamel
The Ford Emblem was also painted with the same paint
The end result
I was installing the foglights on this day, the valence was painted with a basecoat and clearcoat system, the grill was only a single stage paint.

Re: Color matched grill
can you post pics of how the finished project looks? I'm thinking about doing the same thing but in white instead of silver

It's kind of a universal light bar. I pulled it off a 98

Re: Color matched grill
That's one of the best rattle jobs I've seen, I'm surprised, although I can't see it in person to see how it looks upclose. What exactly did you do- sanding, primer, prep, etc? Also did you use the same color code as your truck? I know dupli-color has a lot of car paints in can, like oxford white.
As far as the finishing prep thing, I would research of clearcoat from a can BEFORE you try attempting to use it. I read around about clearcoats from spray cans, and it seems a lot of people end up having awful results. From my limited knowledge, the pressure from a can isn't high enough, it doesn't properly/evenly disperses the clear coat, so much that some just say to leave the paint without a clear coat. Just a warning. You could get a body shop to clear coat it, I doubt it would cost much.
Other than that, I'd say throw some wax on it and it'll be all good, but remember, when you wash it, the paint will show up on your sponge/rag, but it's completely normal. Just don't expect the paint to last as long as other paint.
Edit: Didn't realize you already clear coated it, what did you use? I'm curious if you did use it from a can, if it clouded up the overall look at all.
