Default Interchangeability...

So things I wanted to do with my old Ranger but I couldn't, and now I learned more about what I want:

-on 98/99 Rangers, where can I find the black grilles to replace the chrome ones? Or would you recommend just painting? (In the e28 BMW world we call it shadowlining).

-What taillights after 99 can fit a 98/99? I am going to find the all red lenses off a newer model... but I think I can go up only as far as 2006...? Correct me if I am wrong.

-I also would be looking for black bumpers. Where to find?

save your money and paint your bumper and grille.
for the tail lights, if you wanted all red, you would need to modify the 00+ lights becasue your 99 has 3 bulb set up. any 2000+ tails have a two bulb set up so you will need to modify either the light or wiring for it to work properly. I have a 99 but i just "redded out" my tails so they are all red now but are originally the amber top.

Its hard to get paint to stick good to the chrome grill. Since you are close to it I would say to go to Pick & Pull often to check their junkyard inventory. They are changing out the Ford truck and suv lot every week or two usually. Thats where you can get anything from new grills, taillights, to the bumpers.

Not quite sure on the taillight but someone should know on here. With the grill, you can either find a new one from the same year or do a swap to the 01&up style which would change the headlight setup. My edge came with the black honeycomb grill but it is best to go ahead and paint whatever grill you find at that time. The stock plastic fades quick and a good rattle can of gloss black will bring it back to life!

and look at rockauto.com for parts as well. I looked to get a new stock edge primered bumper for mine cuz its cracked and on that site its only $40 for a brand new one! Great site for stock parts!

the chrome is just painted on if you sand it with an aggressive enough of a grit and then feather it with higher grit, it should stick on fine

Yeah rockauto is a great resource... I have heard and seen a lot from them. Haven't dealt with them in a while because I have been into BMW's for a while.

As for the tails... I didn't realize there was a harness change... maybe there is a way to modify a 99 harness? Or is there a plug'n'play harness that can easily be changed?

I saw you were looking at a 98-99. What about a 2000? They are the exact same but have a 2 bulb set-up in the back.

Also check our how-to section. There is a way to change from a 3 bulb to a 2 bulb set up.

Gotcha. Didn't know if there is a direct plug in. See on the old BMW 5er's there is a harness plug to remove the US spec headlight harness and plug in a Eurospec harness. Didn't know if Ford did the same or not.

I don't care much for the 2000 front ends.

well like i said, you can use a trailer "T" wiring harness and hook it up to your tail lights so it converts it for a 2 bulb set up but it won't let me put the how-to on here idk why lol ill just PM it to you

and a 2000 front end is the same as a 98 and 99. its 93-97, 98-00, 01-03, 04-05, 06+

here's the link for the how-to

That was my other concern! Do the assemblies physically fit between 98 and up?
