Default CB radio antenna mounting questions

Just checked a couple of older threads, but didn't see what I was looking for.
Working on installing Firestik 4' antennas.

1. Does anyone use the Firestik quick connects?
How well do they work? Thinking of getting a couple.
Only because antenna tips are close to 12" above the garage door!!
Have to remove antennas to put my truck away.

2. I've seen a couple of bumper mounts. How well do they work?
I've also thought about mounting mine to the front edge of the step
on the sides of my truck, right behind the cab. Have a 2001 extra cab step side!
Would this work, or would I not get very good reception?

3. Last thing, for now anyway, I've also read of rubber plug(s) behind the seats.
At least in the extra cab truck. Are there more than one plug? Would make
running dual coax easier, for me.

Might have to try for photos, before weather takes a turn Monday into Tuesday!
Information appreciated.

On my F150 supercab, I use a Wilson, "Lil Will" base loaded magnet mount, with a cheap little Midland. It works decent enough. Can't compare to my Galaxy with a couple of Francis mirror mounts on my big truck though. The nice thing about the mag mount is you can remove it to get into low clearance doors, etc. As long as you put it back in the same spot every time, your SWR's won't get high on you. Works for me. I wouldn't use the step as a mount for a Firestick, it's fibreglass, and won't provide a ground, although you could run a #10 or larger wire to a good clean ground. But then you still risk scratching up your paint wit the antenna whipping around. The sticks don't whip much, but could still screwup your paint. Don't forget to use an SWR metre on it. If your SWR's are high, you'll eventually burn out the radio finals.

I run a 4 foot firestik firefly. I have it mounted to my tool box. It works all enough but I know it would work so much better mounted to the top of my headache rack but I don't really want it any higher since it hits damn near everything.

Ps like mentioned ground the antenna and get it tuned. I did my own it is life 90% there lol.

Oh and bumper mounts are convenient but will hinder range and performance. You basically want it, as close as you can get it, in the center of a large flat surface above everything else. For optimum reception that means smack dab in the middle of your cab roof or hood...

Most guys do a toolbox mount, fender mount, or mini magnetic.

I still need to power my radio and run the coax cable.
Using the Along custom tailgate mounts, with 4' Firestik
antennas, with tunable tip. Need to find an SWR meter
next, so I can get things fine tuned.
Don't have a toolbox to mount to.
Really don't need/want anything on the hood.
And personally, not to crazy about magnet mounts.

Look on Amazon for a SWR metre, they don't cost much. I think mine was only around $20.

Any to avoid?

I'll look tonight when I get home to see what brand mine is. There isn't much to them, they all "look" cheap.

I have 2 of them installed.
Put them in a couple days ago.
Along with his Maglite mount.
Have not driven with antennas in yet, since
I still need to finish radio install! So, I
personally don't know how well they hold up, yet.

OK, the brand of my metre is Workman. I got it on Amazon at the same time I ordered that little Midland.

I use a 3' K40 antenna. It's mounted in my bed, up against the cab on the passenger side, I can't imagine that a bumper mount would change the reception much. There are also grommets on both sides. There's one that is just in front of the seat, and the other is a little further back. I cut a 'x' in the round grommet and managed to fit the coax through it. I can always post some pictures if you'd like.

I'm currently running one firestik behind the bed. I used one of firestiks stakehole mounts, worked like a charm.

Photos would be great.
Running antenna coax is my biggest problem at the moment.
Tapping into power shouldn't be too hard.
Thanks!

Simple, but effective. Aluminum mirror mount, bolted to side of bed rail, this had a 102" on it.

Sorry it took so long to get around to this. Even if you've already mounted yours up, maybe this can be help to someone else browsing through this thread.

Here's my antenna location.

I wrapped it in loom and ran it between the bed and cab.

Once it made it under the cab, I just ziptied it to the closest available piece. The loom made that a little easier and helps to prevent the coax from getting cut or damanged.

The grommet that this runs through is right in front of the passenger seat.

Once it's in the cab, you can decide where you need the coax to go. I ran mine up the kick then across the dash.
