Default camper shell or tool box?

Hey im pretty new to the site so im not sure if there is already a thread on this or not. So I bought my ranger a week ago and is has a nice camper shell on it but I think it is the ugliest thing that exists. I was thinking about selling it and buying a tool box because I have a few things I want to keep dry such as the jack and stuff. I dont really have a need for the shell other than camping and keeping hunting gear dry but im sure I can camp in a tent and put my gear in the tool box.... What are your guy's thoughts?

Default camper shell or tool box?

It's personal preference really! I have toolboxes, check my pics, but I also own my own business..if I travelled and camped a lot, I'd go for a shell, or at least a tonneau cover...

A shell would just give you more options..and I know some ppl on here have slept under their tonneau in a pinch!

i like my cap (camper shell) for camping, it's nice being high & dry off the ground. toss a peice of carpet in the bed and it's actually pretty comfy. it's also nice having the extra lockable storage space, and being able to haul stuff without needing to tie it down or worry if it's gonna fly out. and the added weight helps in the snow.

however, i hated it at first too, lol. i bought a trail f/x toolbox and usually use that for most of the summer, and some of the winter. but it's great having the cap there for when i need it or want to change up the look of my truck.

I like my shell to, but tool box seem safer if you have something valuable, I can lock the back on my shell but not the windows...not that it would make much difference if someone try to break in.

i used my toolbox from 2000 til 2012 for just basic things & loved it!

but when i started my side business, i got a camper shell so i could lock my lawn equipment up. so it serves as a giant tool box for me...(i take it off in the winter though lol)

I've got a camper shell on my 2000. Super useful, but can get annoying if the things you need to take out are in the front of the bed. I'm not looking to get one for the 2001. I'm looking more for a toneau, probably whatever pops up cheap on Craigslist, but hoping for a folding one.

My shell, and my sleeping deck I built in the bed, allow me to be able to sleep anywhere, at anytime. You can always put a tool box inside the bed under the shell.

I have a real tall shell on my dodge d250 long bed

I could practically fit a vw bug under it

It's awesome for camping. And hauling

But kids looked in the window. Saw my skate boards, and broke the lock to get em
