One thing that drives me crazy about my 95 Ranger is how the spare tire is stored and how you get it out. Its a metal bar with a hinge on it and since I have a tow hitch on my truck it takes forever to unbolt it and if I'm not on level ground the tire is a bitch to get out. I know the Explorer uses a winch to mount the tire and I believe the newer Rangers do too. Is there a way I can mount one of those spare tire winches to my Ranger.

just get the "winch" from a junkyard and mount it in the proper place

Ok does anyone have any ideas about lowering the winch without having the bar the goes into that thing? Ideas tried: pool cue. Result: unsuccessful

Yards have lots of the extensions with the finger to lower the wheel. Pick up the tire iron that has the square hole near one end also. This becomes the lever to rotate the "winch".

Explorers and later rangers have all you need to convert.
