Removal of Stock Bedrail Protectors?
I will be removing the Stock Bedrail Protectors (black plastic), off my 2010 FX4. Has anyone done this before? If so how did you go about it?
I need to do this in order to have my truck bed / rails / tailgate LineX'd.
I am under the impretion that the Stock Bedrail Protectors are affixed to the truck with two way tape of some sort. I want to avoid tearing off my paint in the process of removal.
My Stock Ford Bedliner will be up for sale once the LineX is applied.
Thanks

Use a heat gun. Heat them up carefully without melting them and then pull them off. Do the same for left over tape.

Thanks Maurice. I'm good to go then, I've got the heat gun. Do they come off nice and easy or is it a real chore / mess (left over glue)?
Yep I'm lookin forward to gettin er done. I've got family and friends with LineX in thier trucks (seen it on lots of other vehicles to). Really nice stuff, not as slippery as beliner inserts, looks much better and thick stuff to. Sweeeet!
Thanks

There will probably be some left over tape on the bed. Just go nice and easy with the heat gun and it will come off.
A note, be careful not to over heat the paint, you can bake it off.

and you can take that leftover tape off with some elimitator/eradicator/goo be gone/whatever you call your hard core greese remover, and whipe it off with a rag. you'll have to apply a little pressure, but it'll come off.
and yes, watch yourself on the heat gun. I work with a guy who thinks he knows how to use one, and i'm just waiting for the day he bubbles the paint on the back of some car.. But you should be alright, you don't seem like an idiot.. haha.

Re: Removal of Stock Bedrail Protectors?
If you are interested in selling the stock bed rail caps, shoot me a pic of them, and let me know what you want for them. Been looking for a pair if they are in good shape.
