My XLT has the dummy recesses for the driving/fog lights and I see some wiring around them from the back. My question, has anyone installed lights using the factory wiring? Actually, I'd be interested in seeing ANY lights mounted in those spots...pictures are worth a thousand words...

those "dummy" light recesses are where ford puts the factory fogs. just because you have a wire harness where the factory fog lights go, does not mean the harness is fully functional. 1st: open your black fuse/relay box in your engine. is there a fuse(relay) labeled "fog lamps"? if not, then your going to have to do your own wiring if you want to add lights. If there is a fog lamp fuse, Then check the area behind the Radio bezel, on the right side. This is where the wiring for the factory switch would be located. (the factory switch is located on the right side of the radio, on the bezel, on models with factory fogs)

My 03 xl was the same way. The wiring was missing from the dist. box to the radio bezel

^ all 2001+ 4x4 and sport/edge models have the foglights in the "fake" foglight locations with a few exceptions.

not too many install aftermarket lights in those spots. the factory look is what most people want.

I am guessing you have the squarish looking recesses. So the factory would not fit all that well and the 04 05 square i do not think will fit perfectly well either. Aftermarket would probably be your best bet. But it is hard to find one that will look good in that spot. Upgrading to an EDGE or 4x4 valance would be a direct swap and you can get the fogs in those perfectly.
