Default Broken Tailgate Handle
So here is the problem, I went to open my tailgate the other day and the handle snapped. One side of it is connected while the other is broken in half. The twist is that my truck happens to have a cover on the back so I am completely unable to access the bed and therefore am unable to replace the handle. Because it is a soft cover that does up under the rail, I can't take it off from the outside. Any tips on how to get the tailgate open?

Soft cover that won't come off? Only way to drop the Tail gate is remove the rear access panel on the gate. Then replace the handle with a stock older one that is steel they sell them all over the Internet

You may be able to poke a flat head screwdriver down throw the cracks between the tailgate and the bed and pop the locks that way

One of the most common things to break on a ranger. Luckily though it should only be about a $5 fix

I had the same problem on my 01 ranger. My brother went to open the tailgate and the handle part that you pull on just broke off completely in his hand. I had to order a new one off the Internet and it was only like $6 and was very easy to install.
