I have a 2001 ford ranger edge and the hood release latch doesn't really work. I have to tug it fast and hard and the hood never pops up, I then have to go and bop the hood until it releases.

I have tried oiling the spring under the hood and that seemed to help a little. I am asuming I need to tighten the cable that runs from the latch to the hood?

I sprayed my whole latch and the bar it latches to w/ like a dry liquid teflon when i had my jeep. I had a similar problem but i had to have someone push down on my hood or it'd be really hard to pull the lever.

Another thing that might help is have someone in the cab working the release while your spraying the cable to get a lil lube in there also

I had the same problem. I worked some white lithium grease into the hinge mechanism under the hood. I closed and opened the hood about 5 times and it seems to work a lot better now.
