Single cab 7 ft bed, Modding to a extended cab While keeping my 7 ft bed
ok So i have a 7 ft bed single cab 1997 ford ranger, i want to know if anyone has used a double cab Ranger and kept their 7 foot bed, i understand this would make the truck alot longer by 2.xx feet or so
i would like to know the pros and cons, i fit motorcycles on my bed so a 7ft bed is a must for 2 bikes, but i would like the storage room too for bike stands, tire warmers drinks tools etc. thanks

Re: Single cab 7 ft bed, Modding to a extended cab While keeping my 7 ft bed
it would have to be pretty custom im pretty sure, the frames are different between single cab long box and all extra cab regular box's.
the only way i could see it working out the easiest way, is it buy a double cab ranger, take off the box, extend the frame back and make more bed mounts, and put a 7' box on it.

x2 - add some frame to the back & then re-weld the mounts needed farther to the back

could by an extended cab, ditch the bed alltogeather, make an extension off the back of the frame and build a little flatbed for it.

Re: Single cab 7 ft bed, Modding to a extended cab While keeping my 7 ft bed
A frame section will have to be welded in. They used an extended (Super) cab frame to get the extra room for the 7' bed. Double cab models only have a 4 1/2' bed if I remember correctly and were not sold in the U.S. Whatever the bed length is on the double cab, the bed is definitely shorter than a six foot bed.

damn thats alot of extra work, i might as well just strap 2 bikes on my current 7ft bed and rent a small trailer and out my tools/stands etc on that.

Re: Single cab 7 ft bed, Modding to a extended cab While keeping my 7 ft bed
If you had the money, time, and will to do it, I certainly would like to see a double cab with a 7' bed. Throw a V8 in it for power, it would be awesome. Unfortunately, I don't have the time or the money...

Re: Single cab 7 ft bed, Modding to a extended cab While keeping my 7 ft bed
yea yea extend the frame and weld this to that yea, but your gonna have to be one hell of a body man to move the entire wheel well back like a foot on the bed itself lol If you got something to prove it's not impossible lol it would be simpler to cut the 6 foot bed near the rear, then cut off the back of a 7' bed near the same place plus a foot , weld that on to the 6' .
If you need to haul your bikes on the 6 footer leave the gate open and attach strap mounts to the gate for the rear wheel. come up with a way to slide the ramp into a mount so it holds the gate from bouncing up. or if you wanna get real trick mount 4 tubes like wheel chocks for the rear wheel so when the gate is down they can telescope out horizontal and lay flat on the bet preventing the gate from bouncing.

This ones bein built on a another site:
Extended cab long bed Ranger
It would be easier to use a 98up Ranger, as they have a 2 piece frame, so the rear frame section can be removed by removin 8 rivets per side.

If I were you I'd leave it and if you want more room get the extended cab and lose the extra foot. It would be so much fab and work in my opinion it wouldn't e worth it. Or if you want the room do a full size mod.
