Default '99 Headlights on a newer model.

So my favorite headlights were on the '99 model. They were bigger, I dunno I just like the look of them best. My question is, do you guys think I could install them on a newer model, like 02 or 03, if I removed that little body color piece that is normally underneath the lights?

Am I weird for preferring the '99 year lights enough to try to fit them on a newer model? Can it be done? lol. Any help is appreciated, especially if its psychiatric

You could do a front end swap.

Grill, Header Panel, Lights and parking lights. I'm sure there is some lil pieces that you need too. The 98-00 headlights mount diffrent than the 01+. But it could be done cheap and easy.

I like the 06/07 front ends a lot... except for the headlights. I like the taller headlights that are on the 98-00 model. Well after looking at the header panels for a 98-00 and a 06 They really look similar. I am so confident that they will match up. The grill gaps look the same on both models.. really the only difference is the trim piece underneath on the 06s.

So I need a new core support, 06 header panel and 06 hood with 00 lights and I will be good.. right?

The lights wont work cause you have to have that year header panel. So you can only do either 98-00 on that year header panel or 01/03 on that year header panel

My question is though.... why? lol. Like are the mounting points absolutely completely different? I bet it would work... has anyone tried it and failed?

It for sure will not work. If it did work, i would of saved a lot of money but it's not possible to put 99 lights on a 01-03 header panel. 01+ headlights have those retaining tabs where as the 99's don't. header panel holes are different you have three amber bulbs on the 99 front end per side where as the 01+ only has the side marker which doesnt blink and the headlight with the integrated turn signal.

Unfortunately, it won't work man.

I know I might be splitting hairs here but what about going with a 06 header panel? I did notice some clearance issues on the 01-03 so that's what made me jump to the idea of using a newer one, because they actually match more, at least in the headlight area. I'm not trying to cause a rift, I mean worst case is I will put on a 06 front end with proper headlights but I'm still going to try to fit 99 lights first.

I mean I'd be swapping out on a 95 front end, which don't they only have one amber bulb? So how would I swap on a 99 front end? I've heard it's been done so that seems fixable to me. I actually didn't think about the light bulbs until you brought that up. But don't people swap 98-00 front ends on older models and make the bulb situation work? If the retaining tab that you speak of is what I think they are I don't think they exist on the 06 header panel, therefore that problem is solved, hence why I really think this is possible. I'm really not dumb I'm just stubborn and I have starred at the 06 and 99 header panel and as far as headlight areas go they look strikingly similar... much more similar than the 01-03 and 99s.

Just to be clear it is totally possible to swap on a 06 front end on a 95 Ranger... right? lol.

I think the front fenders might have changed from 97-98... I'm not positive though.

You are correct Brad. You'll need new fenders regardless to what front end you switch to. 98-03 is the same then 04+ is also the same. Your fenders will not work with the 98+ front ends and im pretty sure you'll need a new hood as well. The latch for the hood changed in 98 so you'll have to modify that or use hood pins. ALL 01+ truck have the retaining clips for the headlights, including the 06 the DO exist.

Now trying to throw 99 lights in there you'll just be making everything harder for yourself and more expensive. Ill go take a picture of a 99 light next to a 01+ light in a few minutes

Here:
Back of a 99 headlight still mounted to the header panel

Back of an 01-10 head light

01-10 light lined up with the left edge of the 99 light

If you try to put a 99 light on a newer front end which uses the upper headlight in the picture, you're going to have a huge gap between the grille and the edge of the light itself. It CANT be done. Also, the studs on the back of the 01+ headlights are significantly longer and mount up differently than the 98-00 headlights pictured in the first pic. The header panels for the 01-03 and the 98-00 have the holes in different locations for the studs to slide through and you won't be able to throw the 99 light in the 01-03 panel because of that and because of they way they are secured to the header panel. I've recently dealt with both and saw it personally which is why I'm telling you that it will unfortunately not work.

I guess you could try to cut and mold pieces together but I really don't know how that would turn out since both panels are made of different materials.

Well damn.

See those are things that you can't really notice by looking at pictures.... that well at least. I don't really have access to different year Rangers but damn. Down sides of getting a hair up the ass and only being able to reference pictures.

Thanks for helpin me out though man. Sorry if my stubbornness disabled me from hearin what you were actually sayin but you broke out the physical proof. I appreciate it man. Looks like I will just have to stick with the 06 front end and headlights.
